LAKEVILLE NORTH TOOK ON PRIOR LAKE IN A BOYS’ VARSITY FOOTBALL GAME

Lakeville North and Prior Lake went up against each other in a varsity football game. Lakeville North came into the game with a record of 4-0 while Prior Lake had a record of 2-2. It was senior night for Prior Lake, and before the game each of the Prior Lake senior players and cheerleaders were introduced with their parents. After everyone was introduced it was time to play football.

Prior Lake got the ball on their own 29 yard line. Prior Lake quarterback Nick Vanek used both running and passing plays on the opening drive. Prior Lake was able to move the ball down the field and pick up multiple first downs on their first drive.

Lakeville North stepped up its defensive pressure as they looked to slow down the Prior Lake offense. That didn’t seem to work however because Prior Lake continued to drive down the field. On fourth and six, Tyler Hanson made a 22-yard field goal for Prior Lake.

With 7:54 left in the first quarter the score was Prior Lake 3, Lakeville North 0.

Prior Lake kicked off after the field goal. Lakeville North got the ball on their own 34 yard line. Lakeville North got the ball into the running back Jamiah Newell hands. Newell looked to get the ball down the field as quickly as he could. Lakeville North used mostly a running attack on their first drive of the game. Drew Stewart, quarterback for Lakeville North, and knew where his teammates were on the field. Tanner Jacobus came up with a 29 yard reception for a Lakeville North first down. On fourth-and-nine Alex Knutson attempted a 29-yard field goal and it was good.

With 5:19 left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 3.

Lakeville North kicked off to Prior Lake after the field goal. The kick went into the endzone for a touchback. Prior Lake’s Alex Feine came up with some nice catches for his team. Jordan Cadenas came up with an interception for Lakeville North to give them the ball on the Prior Lake 37 yard line.

Gregory Menard looked to get his team into the end zone as they looked for him to pick up yards on short dump plays for him. On fourth-and-10 Lakeville North punted the ball and it traveled into the end zone for a touchback.

Prior Lake went back to the ground game as they were able to get all of their running backs and receivers involved in the offense. Alex Hart picked up a three yard gain at the end of the first quarter.

After one quarter of play the score was tied at 3.

Prior Lake retained possession after the quarter change. On fourth-and-14, Prior Lake punted the ball back to Lakeville North. Zach Beier got the punt but was not able to get any yards.


Lakeville North got the ball on their own 40 yard line on the punt. Newell continued to gain yards as he looked to get past the Prior Lake defenders. Lakeville North kept the ball on the ground. Bronson Bruneau came up with a 16 yard reception that gave Lakeville North a first down.

Prior Lake called a timeout with 5:46 left in the second quarter. The score was tied at 3.

Lakeville looked to get into the end zone on the drive. They had trouble doing that as the Prior Lake defense stepped up big and was able to bat the ball away. Stu Hamann attempted a 28 yard field goal which was good for Lakeville North.


With 4:48 left in the second quarter the score was Lakeville North 6, Prior Lake 3.

After the kick off Prior Lake got the ball back and got the ball on their own 35 yard line. Hart continued to carry the ball well as he was able to get first downs. Webber came up with a first down on a 15 yard reception. Prior Lake went into a hurry up offense as they looked to get into the end zone on their last drive of the first half. They did just that as Tyler Hanson nailed a 41 yard field goal at the buzzer to end the first half.


At halftime the score was tied at 6.


Prior Lake kicked off to Lakeville North to start the third quarter. Lakeville North committed a penalty on the return that meant that Lakeville North got the ball on their own 9 yard line. Conner Flack was not able to get a huge catch because he was covered by multiple defenders and the ball was knocked away. Prior Lake’s Ryan Germscheide intercepted the ball and gave Prior Lake the ball back.

Prior Lake went into their bag of tricks as Alex Feine broke loose of the defenders as he came up with a 25 yard run for the touchdown. The extra point attempt kick was good.

With 10:45 left in the third quarter the score was Prior Lake 13, Lakeville North 6.

Lakeville North got the ball back after the touchdown. They were not able to convert. Drew Stewart punted the ball on fourth down and a mile.

Prior Lake got the ball back on the 20 yard line. West continued to come up with big plays for his team first downs. Blake Weber also got the ball in short down yard situations. He also was able to come up with first down attempts. On fourth fourth-and-nine, Prior Lake punted the ball to Lakeville North.

Lakeville North got the ball on their own 41 yard line. Lakeville North was not able to get a first down. On fourth-and-six, they punted the ball to Prior Lake. Keyanno Reese muffed the punt so he was down on his own 7 yard line.

Prior Lake looked to march down the field late in the third quarter. They kept the ball on the ground late in the third quarter. Heart picked up 5 yards for a first down.

After three quarters of play the score Prior Lake 13, Lakeville North 6.

Prior Lake retained the ball to start the fourth quarter. Prior Lake continued to toward the end zone. On fourth-and-one, Prior Lake’s Weber found the end zone on a 10-yard touchdown run.

The extra point attempt was good by Hanson.

With 7:58 left in the fourth quarter the score was Prior Lake 20, Lakeville North 6.

Prior Lake kicked off to Lakeville North after the touchdown.

Lakeville North was not able to move the ball on the next drive. They punted the ball on fourth-and-10 on their own 23 yard line.

Prior Lake got the ball back near the 30 yard line. They were not able to get a first down so they punted the ball back to Lakeville North.

Lakeville North kept on looking to Newell for yardage late in the contest.

Prior Lake got the ball back after the interception with less than a minute left in regulation.

In a very good game that featured the special teams for both schools Prior Lake came up with the 20-6 victory over Lakeville North.
