HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL SECTION GAME

On March 7, Holy Family Catholic and Minneapolis North went up against each other in a boys’ Section 5 Class 2A basketball game. The game was played at St. Michael-Albertville High School. 

North looked to push the ball down the floor early. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. Holy Family started the game in a zone defense.


It took a while for Holy Family to get into a shooting rhythm. 


North’s Davon Townley came up with layups and slam dunks. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball. Teammate CJ Brown came off screens and was able to get to the basket and make layups in transition. 


North looked to score baskets in transition. They talked well on both sides of the floor. 


North called a timeout with 14:32 left in the first half. The score was North 7, Holy Family 4.


North’s Willie Wilson came up with deep 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. The defense had a tough time slowing him down. 


After a slow start offensively for Holy Family, they were able to get their offense going. 


Brown stepped up and was able to knock down shots throughout the first half. Teammate Townley came up with slam dunks throughout the first half. That gave his team energy in the first half. 


Holy Family’s Nick Handler came up with deep 3-point shots and layups that kept his team in the game. He was able to get to the basket and step up and knock down shots. 


Holy Family looked to score layups in transition. They also were able to share the ball on the offensive end. 


Wilson was able to get down the floor and come up with his shots. 


Holy Family called a timeout with 8:13 left in the first half. The score was North 22, Holy Family 15.


North’s De’Meiko Anderson came off the bench and knocked down deep shots. He called for the ball and his teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.


Holy Family’s David Torborg brought the ball down the floor and got his teammates involved in the offense. Teammate Noah Seck came up with shots in the first half. 


Butler came up with shots late in the half. North did a good job of getting everyone the ball in spots where they could shoot it. 


North’s Mario Sanders II also took the ball strong to the basket as he came up with layups and jump shots. 


Holy Family called a timeout with 3:54 left in the first half. The score was North 34, Holy Family 18.


North came up with shots late in the first half. They were able to make their shots in traffic as well. 


Anderson continued to come up with 3-point shots late in the first half. 


Even though that Holy Family struggled shooting the ball in the first half, they kept on shooting the ball. 


At halftime, the score was North 41, Holy Family 23.


As the second half got underway North continued to attack the basket and look for their shots. 


Holy Family also did the same. They took their time on both ends of the floor. 


North continued to attack the basket and come up with shots. They were able to slow down Holy Family offensively. 


Holy Family struggled shooting the ball throughout the game.


Townley stepped up and knocked down shots throughout the game. He got to the basket and was able to get his shot to drop. 


Holy Family called a timeout with 13:43 left in regulation. The score was North 52, Holy Family 28.


The North offense came to life midway through the second half. 


Holy Family’s Jake Krisch came up with shots late in the game. He called for the ball and stepped up and knocked down shots. His teammates were able to get Krisch the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 


North swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense and take time off the clock. 


Holy Family attacked the basket late in the game as well. 


North called a timeout with 3:11 left in regulation. The score was North 81, Holy Family 51.


Both teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team took open shots. Holy Family struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. 


Minneapolis North came away with the 89-51 victory over Holy Family. 


The leading scorers for Holy Family were Nick Hendler and Jake Kirsh each with 12 points. Noah Seck added 10 points. 

The leading scorers for North were Davon Townley with 26 points, and Willie Wilson with 21 points.
