On March 3, St. Francis and Fridley went up against each other in a boys’ section quarterfinal game. The game was played at Fridley High School.
St. Francis looked to control the tempo early. They took their time on the offensive end. St. Francis looked to get the ball into the hands of Wyatt Schroeder. Guard Jake Magnuson brought the ball down the floor and got everyone involved in the offense.
Fridley started the game in a full-court press. They wanted to frustrate St. Francis on the offensive end. They applied pressure and made it difficult for St. Francis to get the ball down the floor.
Fridley’s Christian Crockett brought the ball down the floor and got everyone involved in the offense. Crockett also was able to get his teammates the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Fridley turned St. Francis over and they were able to come up with layups off the turnovers.
Because of the defensive pressure that both teams applied it made it difficult for the other team to get open looks at the basket.
Fridley went to a full-court press and made it difficult for St. Francis to bring the ball down the floor.
St. Francis Wyatt Schroeder looked to get the ball into teammate Cody Pennebaker’s hands. Pennebaker came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half.
St. Francis attacked the basket and looked for their shots throughout the first half. Fridley contested every shot that they put up.
Fridley called a timeout with 8:40 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 16, St. Francis 13.
St. Francis Jacob Schultz came up with deep 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball.
The St. Francis offense came alive late in the first half. They were able to talk to each other and come up with shots. Fridley kept the defensive pressure on them throughout the first half.
Both teams went after the ball on both ends of the floor.
Schroeder came up with two-handed slam dunks to keep his team in the game.
Fridley called a timeout with 2:35 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 22, St. Francis 20.
The score went back and forth late in the first half. Neither team went on a significant run in the first half.
Fridley’s Eli Nelson stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots late in the first half.
At halftime, the score was Fridley 25, St. Francis 24.
At the start of the second half got underway St. Francis looked to get the ball into the hands of Wyatt Schroeder, Cody Pennebaker and Jacob Schultz all who came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
St. Francis continued to come up with shots in the second half. They were able to slow down Fridley on the offensive end.
Fridley struggled shooting the ball early in the second half.
Schroeder continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Crockett and Yoal Ruei both came up with shots throughout the second half to keep Fridley in the game.
Fridley did a good job of getting everyone the ball and swinging the ball around the 3-point line. Ruei came up with deep 3-point shots in the second half.
St. Francis called a timeout with 11:13 left in regulation. The score was St. Francis 42, Fridley 39.
The score continued to be close late in the game. St. Francis continued to come up with shots. Fridley didn’t back down however as they kept on coming up with shots themselves.
Everyone attacked the basket throughout the second half. Neither team gave up an easy shot.
St. Francis forward Matthew Bothun stepped up and knocked down shots throughout the second half.
St. Francis called a timeout with 4:18 left in regulation. The score was St. Francis 54, Fridley 48.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls in the second half.
Crockett looked to come up with 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Fridley stepped up their offensive production with just under 3:30 left in the second half. They attacked the basket and kept on looking for their shots.
Fridley called a timeout with 2:04 left in regulation. The score was St. Francis 58, Fridley 53.
Fridley’s Tra’Vione Stevenson came up with shots late in the game. Fridley kept on attacking the basket late and looking for their shots. They wanted to frustrate St. Francis on both ends of the ball.
Crockett came up with steals and layups late in the game.
St. Francis called a timeout with 1:14 left in regulation. The score was St. Francis 58, Fridley 57.
Fridley kept attacking the basket and came up with shots late in the game.
St. Francis called a timeout with 59.4 seconds left in the second half. The score was Fridley 59, St. Francis 58.
St. Francis called a timeout with 46.0 seconds left in the second half. The score was Fridley 59, St. Francis 58.
The game came down to the wire. Neither team gave up an easy shot down the stretch.
Crockett came up with a layup late in the game that gave Fridley a 1-point lead.
St. Francis called a timeout with 17.8 seconds left in regulation. The score was Fridley 61, St. Francis 60.
The game came down to the wire. Fridley’s Stevenson came up with a steal and was fouled. He stepped up and knocked down two free throws.
Fridley came up with the 63-60 victory over St. Francis.
