LEGACY CHRISTIAN WENT UP AGAINST ST. PAUL CENTRAL IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

Legacy Christian and St. Paul Central squared off in a boys' basketball game. Both teams started off in a zone defense.
 

Legacy struggled to shoot the ball early in the game.

 

Central passed the ball around the 3-point line as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

 

Legacy called a timeout with 10:13 left in the first half. The score was Central 17, Legacy 6.

 

Central was able to come up with layups and jump shots in the first half.  

 

Legacy played a zone defense in the first half. They wanted to make Central shoot three-point shots.

 

Even though Legacy struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. They kept on shooting shots that they thought they could make.

 

Legacy got their offense going late in the first half. They were able to get their shots to drop.

 

Central kept attacking the basket as they were able to come up with layups and jump shots.

 

At halftime the score was Central 28, Legacy 23.

 

Legacy’s Josh Niessen came up with 3-point shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Central’s Jon Gubbrud came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

After a slow start by Legacy, they were able to get their shots to drop. They took their time on the offensive end as they passed the ball around the 3-point line.

 

Central’s Abdikalak Muse came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Legacy struggled to shoot the ball for a period of time in the second half. Central used that to their advantage as they were able to come up with shots.

 

Both teams picked up the scoring pace. There were many fast breaks midway through the second half.

 

Legacy’s Lucas Nelson came up with 3-point shots in the second half.

 

Central called a timeout with 8:49 left in regulation. The score was Central 49, Legacy 37.

 

Legacy’s Michael Stelly came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to get to the basket and make shots. On the defensive end he was able to slow his man down.

 

Legacy struggled to shoot the ball throughout the second half. Even though they struggled to shoot it, they continued to look for their shots.

 

Central called a timeout with 2:00 left in regulation. The score was Central 59, Legacy 40.

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A GIRLS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 18 Legacy Christian Academy and Minneapolis Roosevelt squared off in a girls' basketball game.

Legacy started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to force Roosevelt to take deep 3-point shots.

Roosevelt pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition. Roosevelt passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Roosevelt had a difficult time shooting the ball for a period of time in the first half.

Legacy used their quickness to beat Roosevelt down the floor.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 10:35 left in the first half. The score was Legacy 16, Roosevelt 4.

Legacy took time off the clock by passing the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. Legacy also was able to score layups in transition.

Legacy’s zone caused problems for the Roosevelt offense throughout the first half. They were not able to get shots in their offense.

At halftime the score was Legacy 41, Roosevelt 17.

Legacy’s Cali Weddle was all over the floor. She was able to come up mid-range jump shots and layups. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.

Roosevelt’s Sina Claude and Katie Jones came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

Legacy’s Tori Cole came up with layups on the low block. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball where she could shoot it.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:38 left in regulation. The score was Legacy 49, Roosevelt 17.

Roosevelt looked to trap the ball on the defensive end. Legacy was able to escape the trap and get to the basket.

Roosevelt’s Lazhanique Bryant came up with midrange jump shots and layups in the second half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.

Weddle called for the ball on the low block. She was able to make layups and midrange jump shots.

Roosevelt struggled to make shots throughout the game. Legacy was able to hit their shots down the stretch.

Legacy came away with the 67-35 victory over Roosevelt.

The leading scorer for Roosevelt was Bryant with 16 points.

The leading scorer for Legacy was Weddle with 19 points.

The Steven’s Sports Report MVP’s were Roosevelt’s Bryant and Legacy’s Weddle.

INDIANA WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA IN A WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 17, Indiana and Minnesota went up against each other in a women's basketball game at Williams Arena. Going into the game Indiana had an overall record of 10-7 and were 2-3 in the conference. Meanwhile Minnesota had an overall record of 10-6 and were also 2-3 in the conference.

 

Minnesota started the game out in a 2-3 zone defense. They wanted to make Indiana take deep 3-point shots.

 

Minnesota looked to score baskets in transition. Minnesota looked to get the ball into the hands of guard Allina Starr. Starr pushed the ball down the floor and was able to get her teammates involved in the offense.

 

It took both teams awhile to get into a shooting rhythm. It also took a while for them to figure out what the other one was doing on defense.

 

Minnesota guard Rachel Banham drove to the basket as she was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

 

Indiana picked up their defensive pressure at half court.  

 

Indiana looked to attack the basket and get the ball inside. They also were able to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

 

Indiana wasn’t afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot.

 

There was a media timeout with 4:17 left in the first period. The score was Indiana 10, Minnesota 8.

 

Minnesota continued to push the ball down the floor and come up with layups. They took their time on the offensive end.

 

Indiana looked to get the ball inside to Jenn Anderson. Anderson looked to make layups from the low block.

 

After one quarter of play the score was Indiana 21, Minnesota 16.

 

Indiana looked to get the ball into the hands of Tyra Buss. Buss came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. If Buss didn’t think that she had a good shot she would pass it to one of her teammates.

 

Minnesota looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Starr lead the fast break.

 

Minnesota stayed in a zone defense in the second quarter. Indiana countered with a man-to-man defense.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the second quarter.

 

Banham was all over the floor on the offensive end. Her teammates kept feeding her the ball in the second quarter. She kept on coming up with jump shots and layups in the paint.

 

There was a media timeout with 4:56 left in the second quarter. The score was Minnesota 31, Indiana 27.

 

The defensive pressure that Minnesota applied made it difficult for Indiana to take open shots.

 

Indiana’s Buss kept on hitting mid-range jump shots and layups in the second quarter. Buss also did a good job of coming off of screens on curl cuts.

 

Indiana called a timeout with 3:16 left in the second quarter. The score was Minnesota 37, Indiana 29.

 

There were many loose balls in the second quarter. Both teams dove on the floor going after the ball.

 

The game was very physical all around.

 

At halftime the score was Minnesota 43, Indiana 38.

 

Indiana started the third quarter in a zone defense. On the offensive end Indiana continued to look to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

 

Buss and Jenn Anderson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. They also provided a lot of energy while they were on the floor. Buss also got hot from behind the 3-point line in the third quarter.

 

There was a media timeout with 4:47 left in the third quarter. The score was Minnesota 53, Indiana 52.

 

Anderson got to the line and came up with free throws. She wasn’t afraid to attack the basket.

Indiana used a lot of time off the 30 second shot clock. They didn’t rush their shots but they looked to shoot the ball with under 10 seconds remaining.

 

Starr kept attacking the basket as she came up with layups late in the third quarter. On the defensive end she did a good job of guarding whoever she was matched up with.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Minnesota 63, Indiana 58.

 

Minnesota kept attacking the basket in the fourth quarter. They were able to keep making shots. Indiana also came up with shots in the fourth quarter.

 

There was media timeout with 4:57 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnesota 69, Indiana 63.

 

Minnesota’s Mikayla Bailey and Shayne Mullaney stepped up their offensive production in the fourth quarter as they came up with mid-range jump shots and layups on the offensive end. They were also being able to come up with stops on the defensive end.

 

Indiana called a timeout with 3:38 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnesota 73, Indiana 70.

 

Minnesota looked to use as much time off the clock as they could late in the fourth quarter.

 

There were several ties and lead changes late in the game.

 

Minnesota came away with the 78-76 victory over Indiana.

 

Overall Indiana shot 28-61 from the field, that included going 4-17 from behind the 3-point line.

They were 16-22 from the free throw line. Indiana brought down a total of 35 rebounds 24 of them on the defensive end. Indiana was lead in scoring by Buss and Royster each with 17 points. Anderson and Cahill each had 14 points.

 

Minnesota was 31-67 from the field, that included going 5-13 from behind the 3-point line. They were 11-16 from the free throw line. Minnesota brought down a total of 39 rebounds 24 of them on the defensive end. Minnesota was lead in scoring by Banham who scored 24 points.

 

After the game Minnesota head coach Marlene Stollings and players Banham and Bailey also talked to the media about the game.

MINNEHAHA ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On January 16 Minnehaha Academy and Minneapolis North squared off in a boys' basketball game.

 

North looked to set the tempo early. North’s JaQuan Sanders-Smith came up mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Minnehaha Academy played a zone defense. That made North have to take deep 3-point shots.

 

North called a timeout with 13:59 left in the first half. The score was North 11, Minnehaha 10.

 

North attacked the basket and came up with layups and jump shots.

 

North’s Isaac Johnson received a technical foul for saying something to the official.

 

Minnehaha called a timeout with 9:15 left in the first half. The score was North 21, Minnehaha 13.

 

Minnehaha came up with steals and were able to convert on the offensive end. Minnehaha’s Jalen

Suggs came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Minnehaha called a timeout with 4:51 left in the first half. The score was North 31, Minnehaha 23.

 

North continued to push the ball down the floor and continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

 

At halftime the score was North 46, Minnehaha 32.

 

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Minnehaha kept on attacking the basket as they looked for layups. They struggled to shoot the ball throughout the second half.

 

North came away with the 93-70 victory over Minnehaha.

ROBBINSDALE ARMSTRONG WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On January 16 Robbinsdale Armstrong and Edina squared off in a boys basketball game.

Armstrong looked to get the ball into the hands of Race Thompson. Thompson took the ball hard to the basket as he looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots.

Edina looked to score baskets in transition. Edina used a man-to-man defense. They didn’t want Armstrong to get easy looks at the basket.

Armstrong struggle to shoot the ball in the first half. Armstrong’s Jubie Alade made layups as he was able to come off of picks.  Teammate Race Thompson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Edina’s Will Moreton was able to get his shot going early. He was able to make jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.

Edina called a timeout with 6:06 left in the first half. The score was Edina 27, Armstrong 14.

Moreton stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

At halftime the score was Edina 49, Armstrong 25.

As the second half got underway Edina continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Alade was all over the floor. He came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups.

Armstrong was able to come up with shots late in the game.

Armstrong was overmatched throughout the game.

Edina came away with the 91-62 victory over Armstrong.

The leading scorer for Edina was Moreton with 41 points.

The leading scorer for Armstrong was Alade with 25 points and Thompson 13 points.

TOTINO-GRACE WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 16, Totino-Grace squared off against Minneapolis Southwest in a boys' basketball game.

Going into the game Totino-Grace had a record of 8-7 while Southwest had a record of 3-13.

Totino-Grace started the game out in a man-to-man defense. Southwest started the game in a zone defense.

It took a while for each team to figure out what the other team was doing on the defensive end.

Totino-Grace did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around and made good cuts. They also were able to make layups in traffic.

Totino-Grace switched between man-to-man and zone defense. They created confusion for Southwest.

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a substantial run.

Southwest got everyone the ball on the offensive end. They looked for shots that they could take before forcing up a shot.

Southwest called a timeout with 10:42 left in the first half. The score was Totino-Grace 16, Southwest 12.

Southwest took time off the clock by passing the ball around the 3-point line. They wanted to find good shots that they could take.

Southwest guard Johnny Sykes came off the bench and provided an offensive spark. Sykes looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Totino Grace's Rocky Kreuser stepped up and was able to knock down 3-point shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Southwest called a timeout with 7:01 left in the first half. The score was Totino-Grace 29, Southwest 20.

Totino-Grace came up with some big stops on the defensive end. They were able to slow down the Southwest offense.

The Southwest offense went stagnant late in the first half. They had trouble making shots.

At halftime the score was Totino-Grace 50, Southwest 35.

As the second half got underway Totino-Grace looked to take time off the clock as they looked for their shots, by passing it around the 3-point line.

Kreuser kept on calling for the ball as he came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

Totino-Grace came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Southwest called a timeout with 14:59 left in the second half. The score was Totino-Grace 59, Southwest 37.

Totino-Grace was quicker than Southwest. They were able to hit shots in transition and cause Southwest problems shooting the ball.

Totino-Grace came up with layups and mid-range jump shots down the stretch.

Southwest didn’t give up on either end of the floor. The defensive pressure that Totino-Grace applied made it difficult for Southwest to make shots that they put up.
