PETTERS VS A & A MILLWORK - SEMIFINAL ACTION

In the semi final game tonight A & A Millwork went up against the Petters Group. The winner will take on El-Amin’s Fish House tomorrow night for the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League Championship.

At the start of the game Devron Bostick of Petters and Johnny Gilbert of the A & A set the pace of the game which was up and down, run-and-gun, but with boys teams playing a match up zone, both teams had a hard time getting much rhythm. First quarter score: Petters 19 A & A Millwork 23.

Both teams were much more aggressive in the second quarter. Devron continued to be on top of his game and showed some great athletic moves, but Gilbert tired late in the period and had to be replaced. At the same time Damien Johnson really stepped up his game and started showing why he will be in the Gopher line up next season.

Tyrell made a big difference for the Mill late in the second quarter and helped push their lead to 47-39 at the half.

In the third quarter Tyrell Sledge gave his team a big spark by hitting back-to-back jumpers and this seemed to fire up the Mill. Tyrell was the catalyst but Johnny rebounded, defended and also did his share of the scoring.

Damian Johnson and Devron Bostick refused to go away and scored on a variety of shots to cut the Mill’s halftime lead to four-points, 66-62.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter Devron went the length of the court and finished on a windmill dunk that brought the sparse to their feet and you could hear a collective sigh throughout the building. He tied the score at 69.

But over the last five-minutes of the game, the Mill started moving away behind a great effort by Johnny Gilbert and the Mill went on to win 87-79.

Johnny Gilbert had 26 points and Tyrell Sledge 21 for the winners and Devron Bostic finished with 27 and Damian Johnson 24. The Gophers are going to be very difficult to beat this season with these two guys in the lineup.

A & A Millwork will play El Amin’s Fish House for the Championship tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.
