OWATONNA TOOK ON SHAKOPEE IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL CONTEST

Owatonna traveled to Shakopee for a boys' basketball game. Coming into the game Owatonna had a
record of 19-3. Shakopee had a record of 12-9.
 
Shakopee started out the game in a tight man-to-man defense. It took both of these teams a while to get into the flow of the game.
 
Owatonna started out in a full court man-to-man defense. They looked to use as much pressure as they could to keep Shakopee from scoring.
 
Ethan Petrell for Shakopee brought the ball down the court. He looked to get his teammates involved in the offense.
 
Owatonna tried to trap the ball in the corners of the full court press. That rattled Shakopee a little bit.
The score went back and forth throughout the opening half. Neither team got out on a run.
 
Owatonna's Mike Sebring took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to blow by his defenders.
Sebring also stepped up big and knocked down free throws.
 
Vaughn Thada from Owatonna was also on a path to the basket. When he got the ball out of
 
Shakopee's basket he turned to the other way and looked to score on the other end. Thada played the
guard spot and was very quick with his feet.
 
Both teams dove on the ground after loose balls. The score was close throughout the first half. These
teams were evenly matched.
 
Kevin Calrson for Shakopee made some good moves to the basket. He was on from everywhere on the court. His teammates knew that he had the hot hand and they kept on feeding him the ball.
 
Carlson also was able to step back behind the three-point line and knock down some three-point shots
as well.
 
Owatonna called a timeout with 3:59 left in the first half. The score was Owatonna 22 and Shakopee
20.
 
Owatonna went cold in the last four minutes of the half.
 
Neither team went on a run in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was Shakopee 26 and Owatonna 22.
 
As the second half got underway Shakopee came out in a zone defense. Owatonna came out on fire as they were able to make their first few shots that they put up.
 
Shakopee called a timeout with 14:57 left in regulation with the score Owatonna 28 and Shakopee 26.
 
Shakopee stayed in a zone defense throughout the game. They thought that it was successful against the Owatonna offense.
 
The game was close throughout. There were many lead changes and ties in the game.
Shakopee was able to force Owatonna to turn the ball over late in the game.
 
The game came down to the wire. The lead switched many times late in the contest.
 
Shakopee called a timeout with 1:55 left to go in regulation with the score tied at 46.
 
Ethan Petrill scored the winning basket for Shakopee with .5 seconds left on the clock. With that shot
Shakopee came away with the 48-46 victory over Owatonna.
