MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 19, Minneapolis North and Minneapolis South squared off in a boys’ basketball game.
North looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.
Both teams started the game in a zone defense. It took a while for both teams to get into a flow early.
North called a timeout with 15:01 left in the first half. The score was North 12, South 4.
North got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of talking to each other on both ends of the floor. North also shared the ball well.
North’s JaQuan Sanders-Smith took the ball hard to the basket. He could make mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end, he could slow the guy down that he was guarding.
South attacked the basket as they looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. South struggled shooting the ball. North was quicker than South and they used that to their advantage.
North’s Da’Kei Hines came off the bench and he provided an offensive spark on the low block. He looked to get the ball on the low block and take layups. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid to pass the ball to one of his teammates.
South called a timeout with 11:19 left in the first half. The score was North 18, South 10.
The defensive pressure that North applied made it difficult for South to get open looks at the basket. Even though it was tough for South to get shots, they kept on shooting the ball.
North’s Odell Wilson IV made layups throughout the first half. He took the ball hard to the basket. Wilson did a good job of calling for the ball in the low post.
South’s Jalen Jones could get his team in the offensive set that he wanted. Jones was also able to bring the ball down the floor and pass it to his teammates. His teammates also got him the ball where he could shoot it. Jones looked for his shot in the mid-range area and layups.
North called a timeout with 5:16 left to go in the first half. The score was North 38, South 20.
North went to a trapping defense. They wanted to trap the ball on the defensive end when the ball got passed half court.
South went into a scoring drought late in the half. They couldn’t make a shot. North took advantage of that as they came up with steals and fast break layups.
South called a timeout with 2:44 left in the first half. The score was North 46, South 20.
North continued to look to score on layups late in the half. They went to a half-court defense.
North’s Isaac Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half on the offensive end.
At halftime, the score was North 52, South 20.
As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to make layups in transition.
North end to a zone defense in the second half. They made South pass the ball around the three-point line. South looked to get the ball in the low block.
Wilson kept on coming up with layups off the fast break in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
South did look to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. North was quicker than South was.
South called a timeout with 11:26 left in regulation. The score was North 63, South 35.
Both teams went into a scoring drought in the second half. They both had a difficult time scoring baskets.
South’s Malachi Lossow was all over the floor. On the offensive end, Malachi Lossow could make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in the paint where he could make layups or take jump shots.
South attacked the basket and looked to continue to make layups and mid-range jump shots.
South called a timeout with 6:01 left in regulation. The score was North 75, South 39.
North was too much for South to handle. South didn’t give up as they fought to look for their shots throughout the game.
North came away with the 82-43 victory over South.
The leading scorers for South were Malachi Lossow with 12 points and Jones with 8 points.
The leading scorers for North were Isaac Johnson with 19 points, Wilson with 15 points, and Sanders-Smith with 12 points.

SID HARTMAN BREAKS HIP IN FALL

On Saturday, Dec. 17, sports columnist Sid Hartman broke his right hip when he slipped on some ice on his way to an appearance at a birthday party.
Hartman was taken to Fairview Southdale Hospital and underwent a 2.5-hour surgery.
Hartman was 96 at the time of the fall.

RICHFIELD WENT UP AGAINST ST. THOMAS ACADEMY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Richfield and St. Thomas Academy squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run early. 

Richfield pushed the ball down the floor and could come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Richfield used their quickness to get past the St. Thomas defense. St. Thomas used mostly a zone defense in the first half. They did switch between man-to-man throughout the half though. 

St. Thomas struggled to score late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Richfield 37, St. Thomas 31. 


As the second half got underway St. Thomas came out pushing the ball down the floor and came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

The game was close throughout the second half. St. Thomas got everyone involved in the offense. They took the lead late in regulation.

St. Thomas came away with the 72-66 victory over Richfield.


BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S WENT UP AGAINST HASTINGS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 17, Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Hastings went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game at St. Thomas Academy.
Benilde pushed the ball down the floor and got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of talking on both ends of the court.
Hastings called a timeout with 15:19 left in the first half. The score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s 10, Hastings 3.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Jamison Battle was all over the floor. On the offensive end of the floor he came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end he was able to slow down the person he was guarding.  
Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 12:10 left in the first half. The score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s 13, Hastings 12.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. Neither team went on a run in the first half.
At halftime, the score was Benilde-St. Margret’s 35, Hastings 33.  
As the second half got underway Benilde-St. Margret’s kept on pushing the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.
Hastings had trouble scoring in the second half. They were not able to make shots that they put up.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Joe Dunn was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he could get to the basket and come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s came away with the 79-61 victory over Hastings.

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY WENT UP AGAINST HILL-MURRAY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 17 Bloomington Kennedy and Hill-Murray squared off in a boys’ basketball game.
Hill-Murray pushed the ball down the floor and made layups in transition. Hill-Murray could get the ball into the hands of Lance Meniboon. Meniboon came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Kennedy looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to get the ball into the hands of Krystian Toliver. Toliver did a good job of making mid-range jump shots and layups.
Hill-Murray used a zone defense in the first half. They wanted to force Kennedy to take deep three-point shots. Kennedy’s offense started slow in the first half but they could find their shots late in the half.
Kennedy went to a trapping defense as they looked to put pressure on Hill-Murray and make them turn it over.
Kennedy called a timeout with 2:05 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 41, Hill-Murray 27.
Hill-Murray started out strong but the defensive pressure that Kennedy applied late in the half made it difficult for Hill-Murray to make shots.
At halftime, the score was Bloomington Kennedy 45, Hill-Murray 27.   
Kennedy kept looking to get the ball into the hands of Aune Markel and Toliver. Both of whom came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.
Hill-Murray struggled to shoot in the second half. Even though that they struggled they kept attempting shots.
Hill-Murray called a timeout with 11:16 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 64, Hill-Murray 34.
Kennedy’s Joshua Bryant came up with layups and jump-shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Bryant also did a good job of taking the ball hard to the basket and getting layups. On the defensive end, he could slow the guy down who he was guarding.
Kennedy called a timeout with 8:39 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 68, Hill-Murray 38.
Kennedy kept on attacking the basket late in the game. They didn’t give up. Also, Hill-Murray attacked the basket even though they had a difficult time shooting.
Kennedy came away with the 83-62 victory over Hill-Murray.
The leading scorer for Hill-Murray was Runyon with 17 points.
The leading scorer for Kennedy was Bryant with 25 points.

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 15, Minneapolis Roosevelt and Minneapolis Southwest squared off in a boys’ basketball game.
Roosevelt started the game out in a zone defense. Southwest took their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense.
Southwest started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make Roosevelt take a lot of time off the clock.
Roosevelt looked to take time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. They could get everyone involved in the play.
Roosevelt’s Jordan Johnston was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he stepped up and knocked down deep shots.
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball for a period in the first half.
There were several ties and lead changes in the first half. Neither team went on a run.
Roosevelt stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point baskets and layups.
Southwest went on a scoring slump midway through the first half. They could not hit shots that they put up.
Southwest called a timeout with 5:45 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 20, Southwest 11.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls in the first half.
Roosevelt called a timeout with 3:37 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 20, Southwest 14.
At halftime, the score was Roosevelt 23, Southwest 17.
Roosevelt’s Jordan Johnston came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates could get him the ball in spots here he could shoot it.
Both teams continued to exchange baskets in the second half.
Southwest continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Roosevelt also kept attacking the basket late in the game. Johnston also could keep making shots late in the game.  
Southwest called a timeout with 5:13 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 36, Southwest 29.
Southwest used a full court press late in the game. They wanted to make it difficult for Roosevelt to bring the ball down the floor.
Roosevelt called a timeout with 2:09 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 37, Southwest 35.
Both teams attacked the basket late in the game.
Southwest called a timeout with 1:00 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 43, Southwest 37.
Both teams played hard throughout the game, neither team gave up.
Roosevelt came away with the 49-39 victory over Southwest.
The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Desi Sims and Johnston each with 13 points.
The leading scorers for Southwest were Brennan Hawkins with 12 points and Niko Polydorou with 11 points.  

APPPLE VALLEY WENT UP AGAINST CHAMPLIN PARK IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Apple Valley and Champlin Park squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Apple Valley struggled to shoot to start the game. 

Champlin Park jumped out to a 24-9 lead with 10:15 left in the first half. 

Apple Valley’s Tre Jones was able tom step up and knock down deep 3-point shots. 

Champlin Park could score baskets in transition. The Apple Valley defense had a hard time slowing down the Champlin Park offense. 

Champlin Park’s McKinley Wright IV came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Apple Valley took their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and could get everyone involved in the offense.

At halftime, the score Champlin Park 44 Apple Valley 36. 

As the second half got under way Champlin Park continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to make layups. 

Jones continued to make plays and make shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Champlin Park’s D.J. Hunter could put pressure on the guy he was guarding and could slow him down. Teammate Theo John was also able to come up with jump shots and slam dunks. 

Apple Valley couldn’t get the lead late in the game. 

Champlin Park came away with the 91-84 victory over Apple Valley.


MAPLE GROVE WENT UP AGAINST DELASALLE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Maple Grove and Minneapolis DeLaSalle squared off in a boys’ basketball game at Hopkins High School as part of the Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic.
DeLaSalle looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. They also could take time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.
Maple Grove’s Tywhon Pickford came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He also got his team involved in the offense. He was also able to knock down deep 3-point baskets.
Maple Grove’s Bubba Horton was also able to step up and knock down 3-point baskets and make mid-range jump shots.
DeLaSalle called a timeout with 8:20 left in the first half. The score was Maple Grove 22, DeLaSalle 13.
Maple Grove’s Brad Davison could get his teammates involved in the offense. He was also able to get to the basket and make shots.
The pace of the game quickened late in the first half.
Maple Grove called a timeout with 6:05 left in the first half. The score was Maple Grove 27, DeLaSalle 17.
DeLaSalle’s Gabe Kalscheur could come up with steals on the defensive end and turn them into layups on the defensive end.
At halftime, the score was Maple Grove 40, DeLaSalle 32.
As the second half got underway DeLaSalle stepped up its defensive pressure in the second half. That could slow down the Maple Grove offense.
DeLaSalle got the lead back midway through the second half. Maple Grove continued to attack the basket and came up with layups.
DeLaSalle called a timeout with 6:48 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 58, Maple Grove 55.
The score went back and forth late in regulation. Neither team went on a huge run.
Brad Davison scored a 3-point basket with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to give Maple Grove a 67-64 lead.
Maple Grove came away with the 67-64 victory over DeLaSalle.
The leading scorers for Maple Grove were Davison with 28 points and Pickford with 21 points.
The leading scorer for DeLaSalle was Kalscheur with 27 points.

LAKEVILLE NORTH WENT UP AGAINST CRETIN-DERHAM HALL IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 10, Lakeville North and Cretin-Derham Hall squared off I a boys’ basketball game at Hopkins High School as part of the Breakdown Sports USA Boys’ Basketball Tip Off.
Cretin-Derham Hall pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.
Neither team went on a huge run in the first half.
Cretin-Derham Hall’s Daniel Oturu came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Lakeville North got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line.
The first half was very close. Neither team went on a huge run.
At halftime, the score was Cretin-Derham Hall 35, Lakeville North 32.
As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and look for layups.
Cretin-Derham Hall kept on looking to get the ball into the hands of Oturu. Oturu came up with steals and layups on the offence.
Lakeville North called a timeout with 15:44 left in regulation. The score was Cretin-Derham Hall 44, Lakeville North 35.
Cretin-Derham Hall attacked the basket and came up with shots midway through the second half. Lakeville North countered the attack by attacking the basket and coming up with layups.
The score remained close late in the game. Neither team went on a huge run.
The score was tied at 67 at the end of regulation.
As the overtime period got underway both teams continued to move the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.
The score went back and forth in the overtime period.
Lakeville North came away with the 82-74 victory over Cretin-Derham Hall.

MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 9 ,Minneapolis Southwest and Washburn squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Washburn had an overall record of 0-1 while Southwest had an overall record of 0-2.
Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and come up with layups. Southwest looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups.
Washburn used a full court man-to-man press to start the game. They made it difficult for Southwest to bring the ball down the floor. Southwest also used a man-to-man defense throughout the first half.
Southwest’s Niko Polydorou came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
Washburn called a timeout with 14:57 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 9, Washburn 4.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. The score also went back and forth midway through the first half.
Washburn could use their quickness to make fast break baskets. Washburn’s’ Terrell Adams came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Washburn went on a 10-0 run in the first half.
Southwest kept attacking the basket as they looked for layups.
Southwest called a timeout with 8:15 left in the first half. The score was Washburn 14, Southwest 9.
Southwest went to a full court man-to-man press. They looked to make it difficult for Washburn to get the ball down the floor.
Washburn’s Isaac Lotz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. He was also able to make deep 3-point baskets.
Southwest came up with layups late in the first half.
At halftime, the score was Washburn 35, Southwest 26.
As the second half got underway Washburn kept on looking to get the ball into the hands of Isaac Lotz, Cortez Adams and Terrell Adams, all who came up with mid-range jump-shots and layups.
Southwest’s Ari Bogen-Grose stepped up and came up and was able to make deep 3-point shots.
Washburn called a timeout with 13:00 left in regulation. The score was Washburn 37, Southwest 35.
There were several ties and lead changes in the second half.
Polydorou came up with some nice passes and received some nice passes as he was also able to find the basket and make layups.
Southwest called a timeout with 9:00 left in regulation. The score was Southwest 43, Washburn 41.
Southwest did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They talked to each other on both ends of the court. Washburn could keep their composer throughout the game.
Southwest was not afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot and they had everyone crash the boards trying to go after the rebound.
The game remained close late in regulation.
Washburn called a timeout with 1:51 left in regulation. The score was tied at 49.
Southwest’s Bogen-Grose came up with a late 3-point basket that gave Southwest the lead.
Southwest looked to hold the ball and take time off the clock.
Southwest called a timeout with 14.8 seconds left in the regulation. The score was Southwest 54, Washburn 49.
Southwest could take time off the clock. Southwest came away with the 56-49 victory over Washburn.
The leading scorers for Washburn were Cortez Adams with 13 points, Lotz with 12 points, Terrell Adams 11 points.
The leading scorers for Southwest were Polydorou with 18 points and Bogen-Grose with 15 points.

TWIN CITIES ACADEMY CHARTER STARS WENT UP AGAINST THE ST. PAUL WASHINGTON TECHNOLOGY MAGNET EAGLES IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 5, Twin Cities Academy Charter Starts and the Washington Technology Eagles squared off in a boys’ basketball game at Washington.
The Stars looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.
The Eagles could score baskets in transition. They beat the Stars down the floor.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls.
Washington’s Curtis Bell scored his 1000 career points with a free throw with7:45 first half.
The Eagles called a timeout with 11:13 left in the first half. The score was Eagles 13, Stars 6.
The Eagles could come up with steals and could score baskets off the steals.
The Stars had trouble scoring for a period in the first half. They were not able to come up with a basket. The Eagles took advantage of that as they kept attacking the basket and coming up with layups and jump shots.
The Stars called a timeout with 5:12 left in the first half. The score was Eagles 32, Stars 9.
The stars were not able to score a basket the last 5:12 of the first half.
At halftime, the score was Eagles 45, Stars 9.
As the second half got underway the Eagles kept on attacking the basket and looking to make shots.
The Eagles were too much for the Stars to handle. The Eagles came away with the 66-19 victory over the Stars.
The leading scorer for the Stars was Ezekiel Olakunle with 8 points. The leading scorer for the Eagles was Bell with 22 points.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST APPLE VALLEY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 3, Minneapolis North and Apple Valley squared off in a boys’ basketball game at Hopkins High School as part of the Breakdown Sports USA Tip-Off Classic.

Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition.

Apple Valley got the ball into the hands of Tre Jones.

North called a timeout with 15:08 left in the first half. The score was Apple Valley 7, North 3. 

North could get everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and talked on both ends of the floor. 

Neither team went on a huge run in the first half. 

North’s Isaac Johnson came up with deep 3-point shots and could come up with layups. His teammates could get him the ball where he could shoot it. 

Apple Valley called a timeout with 7:56 left in the first half. The score was North 29, Apple Valley 23.

North’s JaQuan Sanders-Smith could make layups in transition. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid to pass it to his teammates.

North called a timeout with 12:50 left in regulation. The score was Apple Valley 59, North 47. 

North struggled to shoot the ball in the second half. They were not able to make shots with consistency. 

North continued to keep shooting the ball. Even though they had trouble shooting the ball they kept on shooting the ball.

Apple Valley came away with the 84-70 victory over North.
 

MINNESOTA STATE WENT UP AGAINST ST. CLOUD STATE IN A MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

On Nov. 26 Minnesota State and St. Cloud State University squared off in a men’s basketball game. Minnesota State came into the game with a record of 3-1 while St. Cloud State came into the game with a record of 3-4.
St. Cloud State looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. St. Cloud State looked to get the ball into the hands of guard Scottie Stone. Stone could get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups.
Minnesota State started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make St. Cloud State take deep shots. St. Cloud State also started the game in a zone defense.
There was a media timeout with 14:29 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota State 14, St. Cloud State 8.
Minnesota State wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. The St. Cloud State defense had a tough time slowing them down from behind the 3-point line.
St. Cloud State’s Jon Averkamp came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.  His teammates knew where he could shoot the ball and they did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
There was a media timeout with 9:55 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota State 18, St. Cloud State 11.
Minnesota State did a good job of moving without the ball on the offensive end. The players communicated well with each other on both ends of the floor.
St. Cloud State called a timeout with 8:04 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota State 20, St. Cloud State 11.
St. Cloud State had a tough time making shots for a period in the first half. Even though they struggled they kept on shooting.
There was a media timeout with 4:30 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota State 25, St. Cloud State 15.
St. Cloud State looked to make it difficult for Minnesota State to make shots. Minnesota State could get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups.
St. Cloud State kept attacking the basket late in the first half. They didn’t use much time off of the shot clock.

The Minnesota State defense made it difficult for St. Cloud State to get open looks at the basket. Even though St. Cloud State had difficulty shooting the ball they kept on attacking the basket.

Minnesota State kept on attacking the basket and could get everyone involved in the offense.
St. Cloud State’s Jon Averkamp and Gage Davis both could make mid-range jump shots and layups.

St. Cloud State could pick up their offensive production in the second half. They could hit their shots in traffic.

Minnesota State Jon Fuqua came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
St. Cloud State came up with steals and converted them into layups on the offensive end. St. Cloud State’s Gage Davis could get through the defense and come up with layups late in regulation.
Minnesota State’s Charlie Brown also could make mid-range jump shots and layups.
There was a media timeout with 4:32 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota State 66, St. Cloud State 53.
Both teams kept on looking to score late in the game.
St. Cloud State called a timeout with 3:05 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota State 69, St. Cloud State 55.
St. Cloud State had difficult time scoring throughout the game. Minnesota State did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.
St. Cloud State called a timeout with 1:11 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota State 73, St. Cloud State 60.
Both teams fought hard throughout the game. Minnesota State was too much for St. Cloud State to handle.
Minnesota State came away with the 79-62 victory over St. Cloud State.
The leading scorers for Minnesota State were Fuqua with 19 points, Harper with 14 points and Joey Witthus with 12 points.
The leading scorers for St. Cloud State were Davis with 17 points and Kurt Hall with 16 points.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH WENT UP AGAINST ST. CLOUD STATE IN A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

On Nov. 26, the University of Minnesota Duluth squared off against St. Cloud State University in a women’s basketball game. Going into the game UMD had a record of 1-2. St. Cloud State had a record of 2-2.
St. Cloud State looked to push the ball down the floor and get everyone involved in the offense early. Both teams started the game in a zone defense.
UMD looked to get the ball out of the basket and push the ball down the floor.
St. Cloud State guard Elizabeth “Betsy” Forbes MacDonald could come up with three-point baskets and mid-range jump shots. Her teammates could get her the ball where she could shoot it.
There was a media timeout with 4:59 left in the first quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 7, UMD 6.
UMD moved the ball around the three-point line. They looked to get the ball into the low block.
St. Cloud State switched between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first quarter. There were also multiple ties and lead changes.
St. Cloud State’s Andrea Thomas also could come off screens and could make mid-range jump shots and layups.
UMD called a timeout with 54.2 seconds left in the first quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 18, UMD 9.
St. Cloud State pushed the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
After one quarter of play the score was St. Cloud State 18, UMD 11.  
MacDonald continued to attack the basket and make layups. The defense had a tough time slowing her down.
UMD kept attacking the basket and could make shots in the second quarter.
There was a media timeout with 4:52 left in the second quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 32, UMD 19.
St. Cloud State slowed down the UMD offense in the second quarter. St. Cloud State’s defensive pressure made it difficult for UMD to make shots.
St. Cloud State called a timeout with 2:30 left in the second quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 38, UMD 24.
St. Cloud State used their quickness to get down the floor and get past the UMD defense.
At halftime, the score was St. Cloud State 40, UMD 26.
As the third quarter got underway St. Cloud State continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to get MacDonald and Chelsea Nooker the ball. Nooker did a good job of driving to the basket and making layups.
UMD continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. They did a good job of getting the ball into the hands of Sammy Kozlowski. Kozlowski wasn’t afraid to get past the defense.
There was a media timeout with 6:28 left in the third quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 53, UMD 30.
St. Cloud State took their time on the offensive end. They could get everyone involved in the offense.
There was a media timeout with 4:11 left in the third quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 57, UMD 35.
St. Cloud State went to a zone defense in the third quarter. The zone defense made UMD take a lot of time off the shot clock. UMD looked for their shot with about 15 seconds left on the shot clock.
UMD’s Emma Boehm could make mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. Her teammates knew where she was on the floor and could get her the ball in shots where she could make it.
After three quarter of play the score was St. Cloud State 68, UMD 44.
UMD kept going to the basket and trying to make layups throughout the fourth quarter.
St. Cloud state called a timeout with 6:21 left in the fourth quarter. The score was St. Cloud State 73, UMD 53.
St. Cloud State did a good job of keeping the defensive pressure on UMD throughout the game.
UMD could knock down shots in the fourth quarter. UMD’s offense came together late in the game. But it wasn’t enough.
St. Cloud State came away with the 84-65 victory over UMD.
The leading scorers for UMD were Kozlowski with 12 points, and Josie Buckley with 11 points.
The leading scorers for St. Cloud State were Nooker with 24 points, and MacDonald with 22 points.
