ORONO TOOK ON ST. MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

In my first game of the 2010-2011 boys’ basketball season I traveled to St. Michael-Albertville where they took on Orono.

St. Michael-Albertville started the game in a man-to-man defense. They looked to push the ball in transition.

Orono came out on fire. Jordan Smith scored the first 8 of the 10 points with 16:45 left in the first half.

St. Michael-Albertville had trouble finding there shot. They did not give up though. Joe Carpenter came off the bench. He was all over the board on the defensive end. When a shot went up Joe was there to get the rebound. He picked up some good steals and was able drive down the center of the court and score on a lay-up.

St. Michael-Albertville used a half-court trap. The trap forced turnovers. They were successful as they were able to make Orono turn it over.

Orono continued to push the ball down the court throughout the first half. I thought that Orono did a good off passing and screening on the offensive end. They sent a lot of picks and were able to get there teammates open.

Jordan Smith for Orono was on fire in the first half. He found his shot early and he was dead on from everywhere on the court.

At halftime the score was Orono 41 and St. Michael-Albertville 22.

Orono looked to push the ball in the second half. They didn’t want to give St. Michael-Albertville any easy shots.

Jordan Smith continued to shoot the ball well for Orono in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball. He shot the ball from all over the court not in just one spot.

Orono continued to push the ball down the court in the second half. They did a good job of scoring baskets in transition.

Orono came out of the gates strong to start the game. They were able to build a big lead from the beginning of the game. I thought St. Michael-Albertville’s Joe Carpenter came off the bench and provided a spark. He also knew what he was doing on the offensive end. I also thought that Brady Wohler played well. Brady knew when to shoot the ball and put up some good shots up. On the defensive end he was able to slow down his defenders.

In a game that started out with a bang Orono was able to cruise past St. Michael-Albertville. The final of the game was Orono 78-and St. Michael-Albertville 57. The leading scorers for St. Michael-Albertville were Max Babb 13 and Joe Carpenter 17 points. The leading scorer for Orono was Jordan Amith with 26 points.

I was joined by The Twin Cities Hoops Czar. Check out his thoughts on the Orono St. Michael-Albertville  game.
