On a cold and snowy blustery evening on December 3, 2010 St. Paul Johnson traveled to Lakeville South for a boys’ basketball contest. The game was scheduled to start at 7:00 pm. The game got off to a late start because of bad travel in the area. There was an hour and a half delay. The game started at 8:30 pm.
Lakeville South looked to push the ball from the start of the game. They came out in a zone defense.
St. Paul Johnson looked to get into their offense early in the contest. Estan Tyler looked to get the ball. He knew where he was supposed to be on the court.
Lakeville South looked to get the ball into Alex Richter’s hands. Alex was all over the court. He had a good shot and wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball anywhere on the court.
The game was close throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run.
With 13:47 left to go in the first half the score was Lakeville South 10 and St. Paul Johnson 6.
The game remained close as neither team was able to go on a run.
Riley West from Lakeville South found his shot. He was able to hit a short jump shot from around the top of the key.
Both teams played good defense throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run in the first half. They traded baskets for a period of time.
St. Paul Johnson looked to get out and run in transition. They are very good if they can get out and score quick baskets in transition. Lakeville South did a good job of not letting them get out and go on their runs.
With 4:35 left to go in the first half the score was St. Paul Johnson 28 and Lakeville South 21.
Lakeville South was able to string some baskets together late in the half.
Lakeville South went to a zone defense. They were able to spread St. Paul Johnson out. Johnson had a hard time scoring against the zone.
At halftime the score was St. Paul Johnson 32 and Lakeville South 27.
Lakeville South went on a run to open up the second half. There was nothing that St. Paul Johnson could do. Johnson was still in the game by all means. It was just that Lakeville South came out and was able to drop a few quick shots.
The game got close early in the second half. Lakeville South was able to get within a point at 35-36 with 13:00 left to go in the contest.
Both teams went at each other in the second half. Chris Smith-Bond for Johnson came up with a few good offensive rebounds. He was all over the boards.
Lakeville South continued to push the ball up the court. They were able to score baskets in transition.
The score went back and forth for a bit in the second half. Lakeville South went on a run late in the contest.
The game came down to the wire. With 45.7 seconds left to go in the contest the score was St. Paul Johnson 57 and Lakeville South 55.
Roosevelt Scott from St. Paul Johnson continued to score from all over the court. He looked good though out the game. I was impressed with his play in the contest. Roosevelt got the ball late in the contest.
Alex Richter made a late free throw with 10.8 seconds left to go to give Lakeville South a 1 point lead. On the next possession, Estan Tyler made a shot in the lane as time expired. St Paul Johnson came away with the 61-60 victory over Lakeville South.
