2012 INNERCITY ALL STAR ALUMNI CLASSIC

Concordia St. Paul basketball court was a buzzing as former Twin Cities basketball players got back together on the court for the Inner City Alumina All Star Classic basketball game. Some of the city's top basketball talent from 1997-2011 were on display. Some of the players that were on display were Lamont Mack, Robin Jackson, Sammy Ricks, Ques Johnson, Jadee Jones, Grant Hargett, Mike Betts, Ricky Batsell Parks, Jamarr Diggs, Sly Walker, Eric Coleman, Jamal Bodom, Bear Johnson, Aj Wilson, Jermaine Davis, Stavon Williams, Dejuan Flowers, Santino Clay, David Hicks, John Bright, Dre Ellis, Avery Duncan, Deonte Roberts, Zac Lofton, Jordan Jackson, Mr. Alipate, Troy Bell, Roe Scott.

It was a fun event for not only the players but for the basketball community. There was no score book kept so individual scoring totals are not available. A team score was kept on the score board and each game was 20 minutes running time.

The players were divided up and everyone into four teams.

TEAM CROSSOVER VS TEAM BALLERS

In the first game of the day Team Crossover took on Team Ballers. With hip-hop music playing the game got underway.

There was no shot clock in the contest. Each team looked to push the ball up the court and play a run and gun style. If they thought that they had a good shot they would take it.

Crossover got out to a quick 15-10 lead with 20 minutes in the first half. Both teams looked for the fast break slam dunk opportunities.. The game had a feel of an all-star game, as there was very little defense. Both teams were very loose and relaxed on the floor. The coaches for each team didn't really do much coaching as they were there to get players in and out of the games at the right time.

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team was able to get on a run. Both teams looked for the cross court passes and worked to get the lay-ups. They were also not afraid to fling the deep three-point shot if they thought that they could make it.

For a good period of the first half each team raced up and down the court flinging the ball to each other and just jacking up shots. Each team played with the attitude, there is NO SHOT THAT I DON’T LIKE! IT’S ALL GOOD!! Everyone was in the mood for a fun and entertaining game. There were a lot of long distance three-point shots taken by both sides.

Even though the Ballers came away with the 64-52 victory.

GOON SQUAD VS TEAM BOUNCE

The game got off to a quick start as each team looked to shoot quickly. Troy Bell for the Goon Squad looked to find his shot. His teammates did a good job of getting him involved in the offense.

The score went back and forth early in the game. Bounce looked to get the ball down the court as quickly as they could. They were looking to get fast break points. 

Neither team was gun shy. They would shoot it from anywhere on the floor they thought that they could make it. Everyone was involved in the offensive end of the plays. On defensive end the both teams played a matador defense.

Bell took the ball hard to the basket. He was not afraid to get fouled. He was able to step up and knock down his free throws. Bell was also able to step back and knock down three-point shots. Bell did a good job of blowing by his defenders. If Bell thought he had a good shot he was not afraid to step back and shoot the ball from anywhere on the court he wanted to. 

Team Bounce kept on hitting their shots mostly on lay ups. Goon Squad didn't back down. They also looked to shoot both lay-ups and long distance three-point shots.

Bounce came away with the 77-67 victory.

CARTER NATION VS EASTSIDERS

East Siders took on Team Carter in the next game. The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor. On the defensive end it was more of the same. Meaning there was very little to no defense pressure applied at all by either team.

The score went back and forth throughout the contest.

Jordan Hughes was all over the floor for Randy Carders team. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.

Team Carter went on a shooting spree as they were dead on as they were able to drain consecutive shots. 

But the East Siders came right back.

In the end Team Career came away with the 81-50 victory over East Siders.

TEAM CARTER VS TEAM CROSSOVER 

Team Carter took on Team Crossover in the next game. Jamar Diggs for Team Crossover found his shot early as he stepped up and knocked down some deep three-point shots.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds.

The score went back and forth for a good portion of the game. Both teams looked relaxed and confident in shooting the ball.

Seantrell Henderson who graduated from Cretin Durham Hall in 2010 had some nice moves near the basket. 

He was all over the boards on both ends of the floor.

Each teams showed off on both ends of the floor. Roosevelt Scott for Randy Carters team was all over the floor. He was able to take the ball strong to the basket and was able to make some nice lay-ups.

Crossover came away with the 47-44 victory over Team Carter.

THE GOON SQUAD TOOK ON TEAM CROSSOVER IN A BASKETBALL GAME

The Goon Squad took on Team Crossover in the Inner City Alumni game. The game got off to a quick start as each team fired up shots left and right.

The Goon Squad jumped out to a quick 14-8 lead with 8:00 left in the game. Team Crossover attacked the basket.

Both teams looked for the cross court passes for easy lay ups. The score was close throughout the game.

Neither team played defense tough defense. In the end the Goon Squad came away with the 42-34victory team Crossover.

CARTER NATION TOOK ON THE BALLERS

Carter Nation took on The Ballers in a basketball game. Carter Nation got up early and kept the gas on the offensive peddle.

The Ballers didn't give up as they attacked the basket and kept on shooting the ball even though there shots were not falling.

Neither team put much effort in on the defensive end.

Carter Nation came away with the 32-18 victory.
