MINNETONKA TOOK ON BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

The Minnetonka Skippers took on the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles in a boys’ basketball game.
Coming into the game Minnetonka had a record of 3-7. Bloomington Kennedy had a record of 4-
5.

Minnetonka started out with the ball. They looked to pass the ball around the three-point line and
take a lot of time off the clock.
 
Bloomington Kennedy came out in a man-to-man defense. They applied a lot of pressure on
Minnetonka.
 
Minnetonka looked to get the ball out of the net and run with it. They looked to score baskets in
transition.
 
The score went back and forth early in the contest. Both teams didn’t go on a run. It took them a
while to feel each other out.
 
Minnetonka switched up between a man-to-man and zone defense. They wanted to get
Bloomington Kennedy out of rhythm.
 
Nick Latzke for Minnetonka found the basket in the first half. He knew where he was supposed
to be on the court and his teammates were able to get him the ball.
 
The game was tied at 12 with 10:45 left to go in the first half.
 
Larry Rice who had heart surgery during the beginning of the year came off the bench and
provided an offensive spark for Minnetonka.
 
With 8:41 left to go in the first half the score was Minnetonka 21 and Bloomington Kennedy 16.
 
Rapheal Cabaniss took the ball strong to the basket for Bloomington Kennedy. He had a nice
short jump shot that was right on target in the first half.
 
Bloomington Kennedy went on a run with 7:00 left. Minnetonka was not able to make a basket
for a period of time in the first half.
 
With 5:25 left to go the score was Minnetonka 27 and Bloomington Kennedy 23.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. Each team went after rebounds on both sides of
the court.
 
Joe Risinger came down and nailed a long three-point shot to give Bloomington Kennedy a four
point lead with under a minute to go.
 
At halftime the score was Minnetonka 34 and Bloomington Kennedy 30.
 
Minnetonka came out in a zone defense. They were able to get out on the Bloomington Kennedy
shooters.
 
Cabaniss did a good job of dribbling through his defenders. He continued to make nice shots in
the second half.
 
Bloomington Kennedy made a run midway through the second half.
 
With 11:57 left to go in regulation the score was Minnetonka 42 Bloomington Kennedy 38.
 
Both teams didn’t let up the pressure they applied on each other throughout the game. The game
was very competitive.
 
The score was tied at 45 with 10:30 left to go.
 
The score went back and forth midway through the second half. Risinger continued to connect on
his three point shots.
 
Minnetonka stayed in a zone defense late in the game.
 
Bloomington Kennedy called a timeout with 3:13 left to go in regulation with the score tied at
61.
 
Patterson continued to find open shots late in the contest. His teammates were confident in his
shooting that they kept on getting him the ball.
 
Patterson gave Bloomington Kennedy a 63-61 lead with 1:30 left to go on a lay-up.
 
With 50.2 seconds left to go the score was Bloomington Kennedy 63 and Minnetonka 61.
 
The game came down to the wire. Nick Latzke hit a three point shot with 18 seconds left to go to
make the score Kennedy 67 and Minnetonka 66.
 
Gino Eagle for Kennedy hit both ends of the free throws late in the contest.
 
Lantzke was fouled and he hit two free throws with 6 seconds left.
 
On the next play SamuelWills was fouled and was able to hit both free throws.
 
With 4.4 seconds left to go the score was Bloomington Kennedy 71 and Minnetonka 68. 

In a tough matchup that went back and forth Bloomington Kennedy fought back and came away
with the 71-68 victory over Minnetonka.


Minnetonka was led in scoring by Tommy McDermott with 18 points. Bloomington Kennedy
was led in Deshun Patterson with 24 and Cullen Russo with 18.

I thought that both teams played well throughout the game. Kennedy didn’t back down from
Minnetonka. They kept on playing hard. Minnetonka gave everything that got in a hard fought
game.
