ONALASKA TOOK ON BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME AS PART OF THE 2011 MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES SHOOTOUT

In the second game of the 2011 Minnesota Timberwolves Shootout, Onalaska took on Benilde-
St. Margaret’s. Onalaska is in Wisconsin. Benilde-St. Margaret’s came into the game with a
record of 5-2.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s started out playing in a zone defense. They looked to spread Onalaska out
when they were on offense.
 
Both teams looked to push the ball down the court in the early goings. Neither team shot the ball
well in the first half. They didn’t give up though as they each kept shooting the ball.
 
Onalaska game out and put a lot of pressure on Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Benilde-St. Margaret’s
didn’t get frustrated. They were able to keep fighting and taking the ball hard to the basket.
 
Isaiah Zierden looked to shoot the ball when he had it in his hands. On the defensive end he was
able to slow down his opponent.
 
Onalaska was able to string some baskets together midway through the first half. They were able
to get a 12-8 lead with 9:30 left in the first half.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s fought back and they went on a run after that timeout. They were down
14-11 with 7:10 left in the first half.
 
Onalaska looked to get the ball into the hands of Matt Thomas. Thomas did a good job of
making his shots that he took in the first half. On the defensive end he was able to slow down his
defenders.
 
The game was close throughout the first half. At halftime the score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s
24 and Onalaska 22.
 
The second half start out on fire as each team sank their first few shots they put up.
 
Will Dunn for Benilde-St. Margaret’s was able to elude his defenders as he was able to wiggle
his way past defenders and come up with some nice shots in the second half.
 
Both teams went at each other throughout the second half. Matt Thomas for Onalaska shot the
ball well throughout the game.
 
With 9:06 left to go in regulation the score was Onalaska 42 and Benilde-St. Margaret’s 35.
 
Onalaska continued to take the ball hard to the basket. They were able to make their shots late in
the contest.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s kept on shooting the ball. They were unsuccessful at making their shots
that they were putting up.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s went on a run with 4:00 left to go in the contest. They got the score
within three points.
 
The score went back and forth late in the game.
 
Onalaska came away with the 62-57 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s was lead in scoring by Isaiah Zierden who finished with 19 points. They
shot 18-57 from the field and 20-29 from the free throw line.

The leading scorers for Onalaska were Clint Rihn with 16 points, Tony Thomas with 15 points,
Matt Thomas with 13 points and Nick Arenz with 12 points. They shot 21-46 from the field
and14-26 from the free throw line.
