Under a nice stiff wind blowing across the field for most of the game Minneapolis Southwest took on South in a high school football contest. South started with the ball. South was not able to get a first down and they had to punt the ball to Southwest.
Southwest on offense was able to move the ball down the field. They were not able to get a first down and South recovered on downs.
South looked to keep the ball on the ground for most of the first quarter. They were able to get first downs. The Southwest defense did step up and slow down the progress of the South running backs.
Southwest kept the ball on the ground. The running backs were able to get past the South defenders. Southwest punted the ball to South on 4th down and 5 yards to go.
South took over on the 46 yard line.
At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 0.
South showed off their running skills as they looked to slice their way through the Southwest defense. South threatened to score midway through the second quarter. Southwest stepped up their defense and was able to stop South's offense and prevented them from scoring.
Southwest got the ball back after they tuned it over on downs. Southwest was not able to get a first down and they punted it back to South.
South was not able to get a first down and they punted it away to Southwest. Southwest's DeAntony McKinley picked up some good yardage on a few plays. He was very confidant running with the ball. Southwest got picked off and turned it over.
At halftime the score was tied at 0.
Southwest picked up a big run to start the third quarter. Southwest threatened to score on their first drive of the quarter.
South took a timeout with 8:42 left in the third quarter.
Southwest’s Maurice Alexander found the end zone for a touchdown the extra point attempt was good.
With that touchdown the score was Southwest 7 and South 0.
South got the ball after the touchdown.
Maurice Alexander scored a touchdown for Southwest. The extra point attempt was no good.
Kaleb Pitchard came up with a big run for South. They looked towards the end zone because they wanted to score a touchdown.
At the end of the third quarter the score was Southwest 13 and South 0.
South got the ball to start the fourth quarter.
Southwest's Dantavian Sears ran for 92 yards for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good. With that touchdown the score was Southwest 20 and South 0.
South got the ball back after the touchdown. Southwest got a safety and scored two more points for the Lakers.
DeAnthony McKinley scored a touchdown with 1:28 left in regulation. The two point conversion was no good. With that touchdown the score was Southwest 28 and South 0.
Southwest was able to get the ball back. They were not able to get a first down. Southwest punted the ball back to South. The ball ended up on the two yard line.
Southwest came away with the 28-0 victory over South. After the game I was able to talk to Southwest's head coach John Biezuns and DeAnthony McKinley about the game.
