On Sept. 1 Oregon State and Minnesota squared off in a football game. It was the opening game of the 2016 season.
Oregon State kicked off to Minnesota. Minnesota’s Jalen Myrick made a 56-yard reception.
Minnesota kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. On 4th-and 4 Minnesota punted the ball.
Oregon State took over on their own 1-yard line. Oregon State looked to get the ball into the hands of Ryan Nall. Nall looked to keep his feet moving after he was tackled. On 4th down and 6 Oregon State punted the ball.
Minnesota took over on their own 45-yard line.
Minnesota looked to both the rushing attack and the passing attack throughout the first quarter. They wanted to keep Oregon State on their toes. On 4th-and-11 Minnesota punted the ball.
Oregon State took over on their own 9-yard line. Oregon State looked to pass the ball down the field but were unsuccessful at completing the pass. Nall had a huge 40-yard rush for a first down.
Quarterback Darell Garretson found Noah Togiai for a 6-yard touchdown pass. Togiai. The extra point attempt was good. With 5:52 left in the first quarter the score was Oregon State 7, Minnesota 0.
Minnesota took over on their own 19-yard line. Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner looked to get the ball into the hands of Tyler Johnson. On 4th-and-8 Minnesota punted the ball.
Oregon State took over on their own 20-yard line. Oregon State looked to use both the short passing game and the quick out routes to move the ball down the field.
After one quarter of play the score was Oregon State 7, Minnesota 0.
As the second half got underway Oregon State fumbled the ball and Minnesota recovered the ball.
Minnesota’s Mitch Leidner came up with a 6-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt by Emmit Carpenter was good.
With 12:05 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 7.
Oregon State got the ball back after the Minnesota touchdown. Oregon State moved the ball well down the field again as Seth Collins came up with some huge receptions. Minnesota’s Rodney Smith came up with a 4-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 5:37 left in the second quarter the score was Minnesota 14, Oregon State 7.
Oregon State took over on their own 25-yard line. Oregon State couldn’t move the ball down the field so they punted the ball on 4th down.
Minnesota took over on their own 27-yard line. Minnesota couldn’t move the ball down the field.
They punted the ball on 4th-and-29.
Oregon State found the end zone again as Garretson found Victor Bolden for a 30-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good. With 1:04 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 14.
Minnesota drove the ball down the field and Emmit Carpenter’s 45-yard field goal was good at the buzzer. At halftime the score was Minnesota 17, Oregon State 14.
Minnesota kicked off to start the third quarter. The ball went into the end zone. Oregon State took over on their own 20-yard line. Oregon State looked to air the ball out as the receivers all looked to get the ball into their hands. Oregon State punted the ball on 4th-and-12.
Minnesota couldn’t move the ball down the field and they hard to punt on 4th-and-11.
Oregon State scored on a safety with 5:37 left in the third quarter. With that safety the score was Minnesota 17, Oregon State 16.
Oregon State punted the ball on 4th-and-8. Minnesota fumbled the punt and Oregon State took over.
Oregon State’s Garretson found Cook for a 12-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
With 2:30 left in the third quarter the score was Oregon State 23, Minnesota 17. That was the score after the third quarter.
Minnesota’s Rodney Smith carried the ball for a 1 yard for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 13:11 left in the fourth quarter the score was Minnesota 24, Oregon State 23.
Oregon State continued to try to move the ball down the field as they looked to chew up clock on the offense.
Minnesota kept the defense guessing by switching up passing and running schemes. On 4th-and-10 Minnesota punted the ball.
Oregon State’s offense sputtered out and Minnesota got the ball back. Minnesota’s Mitch Leidner came up with a 1-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good.
With 1:27 left in regulation the score was Minnesota 30, Oregon State 23.
Minnesota came away with the 30-23 victory over Oregon State.
