At Seafoam Stadium on the campus of Concordia University St. Paul the University of Mary and Concordia squared off in a football game on Sep. 3. It was the opening game for each team.
Mary kicked off to start the game. Concordia’s Alquawn Vickers came up with a huge reception. Concordia looked keep the ball on ground on their first drive.
Concordia couldn’t get the ball moving and they attempted a 43-yard field goal attempt which was good. With 10:57 left in the first quarter the score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
Mary kept the ball on the ground as they looked to get the ball to Zach Podoll. Marry couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted the ball on 4th down.
Concordia’s Darius Chapes came up with a huge run for a first down. They couldn’t move the ball down the field and the drive stalled out and they had to punt on 4th down.
Mary couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted the ball on 4th-and-6.
Concordia couldn’t move the ball down the field so they punted the ball on 4th down.
After one quarter of play the score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
Mary attempted a 36-yard field goal which was no good.
Concordia took over as they once again looked to move the ball down the field. Concordia’s quarterback Ron Johnson was able to get the ball to his receivers and running backs.
Concordia called a timeout with 9:39 left in the second quarter. The score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
The Concordia defense stepped up and slowed down the Mary offense. Mary punted the ball on 4th down. There was a penalty on Concordia so Mary kept the ball.
Mary looked to make short runs as they kept the ball on the ground. Mary punted the ball on 4th-and-6.
Concordia got the ball back late in the second quarter.
At halftime the score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
Concordia kicked off to start the third quarter. Mary punted the ball on 4th-and-2.
Concordia punted on 4th-and-5.
Mary got the ball back on their own 40-yard line. Mary kept the ball on the ground as they looked to get a first down on 4th-and-3. The Concordia defense stepped up big and stopped the Mary offense.
Mary turned the ball over on downs.
Concordia couldn’t move the ball down the field and they had to punt the ball on 4th-and-17.
Mary kept the ball on the ground and ran short running routes down the field.
After three quarter of play the score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
Concordia got the ball back to start the fourth quarter. Concordia looked to get into the end zone in the fourth quarter.
Concordia called a timeout with 11:01 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Concordia 3, Mary 0.
Concordia continued to get the ball down the field. Chapes came up with a huge play with a 17-yard reception. That brought the ball to the 1-yard line. Chapes came up with a 1-yard touchdown run.
The extra point attempt was good.
With 9:55 left in the fourth quarter the score was Concordia 10, Mary 0.
Mary continued to try to get the ball past the Concordia’s defense. Mary came up with a first down.
Connor Graves kept on coming up with first downs on the ground. Mary went for it on 4th-and-28 but the pass was incomplete. Mary was turned over on downs.
Concordia took over on their own 49-yard line. Alex Carr came up with a 36-yard run for a first down. Quarterback Ron Johnson kept the ball and looked to get into the end zone. Johnson came up with an 8-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 1:22 left in the fourth quarter the score was Concordia 17, Mary 0.
Mary got the ball back on their own 34-yard line. Mary ran out the clock.
Concordia came away with the 17-0 victory over Mary.
