2009 MINNESOTA BREAKDOWN TIP OFF CLASSIC BOYS’ BASKETBALL

The 2009 Minnesota Breakdown Tip Off Classic was held at Minnetonka high school. The Minnesota Breakdown is a statewide magazine that promotes youth sports in Minnesota.

In the first game it was New London Spicer against Sebeka. Both of these teams came in shooting the ball very well.

Both of these teams were able to shoot the ball well in the beginning of the game. New London looked to push the ball in transition. They wanted to make shots off of the dribble.

The first half was close. Each team played very good defense. Neither team was really able to go on a run in the first half.

At the halftime break the score was New London Spicer 33 and Sebeka 41.

I really thought that both of these teams played well for being the first game of the day. It seemed that each team came prepared to play.

NLS was looking to get the ball inside. Aaron Johnson who is a post player camped out down on the low block and he just waited for the ball. And he got a lot of looks in the low post. He was able to do a nice little drop step and make his shot from the low block. He was also able to defend well from the low block.

This game was a close contest throughout the game. The defense was very good by each team. They both tried very hard to work for the open shots.

New London Spicer was able to claw their way back in the game. They were able to take the 50-48 lead with 12:00 left to go in the second half.

Sebeka tied the game again with 7:32 left in the second half. NLS played zone defense in second half. They tried to slow down Sebeka.

The scoring went back and forth late in the second half. Both teams were able to step up their defenses and buckle down and that made the shot selections more difficult.

The game came down to the wire. New London Spicer’s Erik Tangwall was able to nail a shot at the buzzer for the 72-70 victory over Sebeka
