IT WAS THE JUNIOR VARSITY TEAMS TO TAKE TO THE COURT BEFORE THE VARSITY GAME

It was the junior varsity before the varsity game between the Richfield Spartans against the Minneapolis South High Tigers.

Richfield started playing in a half court man-to-man defense. They wanted to try to frustrate South from the beginning.

Richfield looked to push the ball up the court in transition. They were all crashing after the rebounds and going after the loose balls.

Richfield was able to score the first six points. Thomas Ford got fouled at the 13:20 mark of the first half and he sank two free throws for South’s first two points of the game.

It took awhile for each of these teams to feel each other out. Richfield’s Wibi MacDonald played good defense when he was in the game. He mostly guarded Hashi Said. Both of them played good defense against each other.

With 8:35 in the first half the score was Richfield 13 and Minneapolis South 4.

South really had a tough time finding their shots. They were shooting the ball but the shots were not going in.

At the half the score was Richfield 29 and Minneapolis South 10.

As the second half got underway Richfield played aggressively and kept attacking the basket. They wanted to score every time that they had the chance.

South put on a run midway through the second half. Richfield was not able to make shots for a period of time and South did all they could to try to stop Richfield in their run.

Richfield had a lead of 34-31 with 8:29 left in regulation.

Richfield continued to push the ball down the court. They still wanted to control the tempo of the game.

South was able to tie the game with 5:00 left in regulation. With 4:41 on a Hashi Said driving layup South was able to get their first lead of the night at 40-38.

South had taken the lead and with 3:57 left in regulation. Richfield had to burn a time out and try to come up with a plan to slow South down.

Richfield was trying all they could to make shots and keep the ball. The flow of the game changed at the four minute mark when South took the lead. Richfield was not able to control their shots. South was able to capitalize of Richfield’s mistakes.

South was able to go on that run with 4 minutes left in the second half. Richfield then made a run towards the end of the game. Both teams battled to the end but Minneapolis South was able to come away with the 55-51 victory over Richfield.
