On Nov. 7 Richfield High School was the site for the Class A Minnesota State High School League’s quarterfinal state football game. Minneapolis North went up against Blooming Prairie. Both teams came into the game undefeated.
North kicked off to Blooming Prairie to start the game. Blooming Prairie took over on their own 23-yard line. Blooming Prairie quarterback John Rumpza looked to get the ball to his receivers. On fourth-and seven Blooming Prairie punted the ball.
North took over on their own 44-yard line. On the first play of scrimmage Blooming Prairie’s Tristen Haberman picked off a pass. Haberman came up with a huge reception to get Blooming Prairie inside the red zone. Jake Decker came up with a four-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was not good.
With 6:11 left in the first quarter the score was Blooming Prairie 6, North 0.
North took over on their own 23-yard line. North’s Josh Cunningham came up with some key runs for his team. North quarterback Tyler Johnson was able to get the ball to Malik Matthew for a first down. North did a good job of moving the ball quickly down the field. North’s Malik Matthew came up with an eight yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was good.
With 3:05 left in the first quarter the score was North 8, Blooming Prairie 6.
Blooming Prairie looked to keep the ball moving down the field. On fourth-and-11 Blooming Prairie punted the ball.
North took over on their own 38-yard line. North’s Johnson came up with some big plays as he was able to scramble away from the Blooming Prairie defense.
After one quarter of play the score was North 8, Blooming Prairie 6.
North turned it over on downs.
Blooming Prairie called a timeout with 11:57 left in the second quarter. The score remained North 8, Blooming Prairie 6.
Blooming Prairie punted on fourth-and-10.
North took over on their own 19-yard line. North’s Matthew came up with a first down reception.
Johnson came up with a 23-yard first down scamper. North was called for holding. That brought the ball back 10 yards.
North called a timeout with 9:06 left in the second quarter. The score was North 8, Blooming Prairie 6.
North looked deep as Azerick Rodgers looked to come up with some receptions midway through the second quarter. Blooming Prairie’s Jake Decker intercepted a pass in the end zone. Blooming Prairie took over on the 20-yard line.
Blooming Prairie’s Jake Decker was all over the field as he was able to chew up yards while trying to get first downs. Blooming Prairie punted the ball on fourth-and-10.
Johnson came up with a 91-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good.
With 4:05 left in the second quarter the score was North 14, Blooming Prairie 6.
Blooming Prairie didn’t move the ball on offense. They punted the ball on fourth down.
North took over on their own 34-yard line. Issac Johnson continued to come up with some huge runs.
Thomas came up with some few big runs late in the second quarter. On fourth-and-eight North went for it but Johnson’s run came up just short of a touchdown. Blooming Prairie took over on the one yard line.
At halftime the score was North 14, Blooming Prairie 6.
Blooming Prairie kicked off to start the third quarter. North’s Josh Cunningham came up some nice receptions. Decker came up with another interception.
Blooming Prairie looked to move the ball down the field on short runs. North took over on downs.
North’s Thomas kept on coming up with some big plays throughout the game.
After three quarters of play the score was North 14, Blooming Prairie 6.
North fumbled the ball and Blooming Prairie recovered the ball. Blooming Prairie turned the ball over on downs.
North got the ball back and they had trouble moving the ball down the field.
Blooming Prairie used their running game. On fourth-and-eight Blooming Prairie was not able to get a first down. They turned it over on downs.
The Blooming Prairie’s defense came up big as they were able to come up with some big stops late in the game.
In a hard fought game North came away with the 14-6 victory over Blooming Prairie.
North head coach Charles Adams said, “I told the kids one game at a time, we have good athletes. Johnson put the whole team on his back.”
