RIVER FALLS WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME


River Falls and Minneapolis Southwest squared off in a boys' basketball game. The score went back and forth early.
 
River Falls started the game off in a zone defense. They wanted to force Southwest to take deep 3-point shots.
 
Southwest applied good defensive pressure. Neither team went on a run in the first half.
 
Southwest guard Johnny Sykes came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.
 
River Falls called a timeout with 6:34 left in the first half. The score was tied at 9.
 
River Falls Jaxon Knotek came up with steals and mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
River Falls came up with steals and were able to convert the steals into layups on offense.
 
Neither team took many shots in the first half. The defensive pressure made it difficult to get open
looks at the basket.
 
At halftime the score was River Falls 24, Southwest 16.
 
Knotek and teammate Jacob Siroin both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. There teammates did a good job of getting them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.
 
River Falls took a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. They were also able to get the ball inside to Kyle Larson. Larson was able to make layups around the basket.
 
River Falls called a timeout with 11:16 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 38, Southwest 31.
 
Southwest went to a full court zone defense. They looked to make it difficult for River Falls to bring the ball down the floor.
 
Southwest kept attacking the basket was they were able to score baskets in transition.   
 
Southwest called a timeout with 6:36 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 46, Southwest 37.
 
River Falls got the ball into the hands of David Palmer. Palmer took the ball to the basket as he was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end Palmer was able to slow the guy down who he was guarding.
 
Southwest had a difficult time hitting shots down the stretch. They kept on shooting the ball however.
 
The game came down to the wire as the score went back and forth with under 2:00 left in regulation.
 
River Falls came away with the 63-60 victory over Southwest.
 
The leading scorer for River Falls was Siroin with 30 points.
 
The leading scorers for Southwest were Niko Polydorou with 16 points and Caine Knuckles with 13 points.
