Caledonia kicked off to Triton to begin the class AA state football championship game. Triton got the ball near midfield. They were not able to convert on the first play of the drive. Triton had to punt the ball to Caledonia.
Caledonia kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. Houston Halverson came up big with some big runs in the first drive of the game. Caledonia threatened to score midway through the first quarter. Ivan Augedahl scored a touchdown on a 1 run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 4:03 left to go in the first quarter the score was Caledonia 7 and Triton 0.
Caledonia kicked off to Triton after the touchdown. Triton kept the ball on the ground for most of the first quarter. Triton used trick plays as they looked like they were going to punt the ball and then Jason Jennings the running back got the ball and was able to get the first down.
At the end of the first quarter the score was Caledonia 7 and Triton 0.
Connor McCormick for Caledonia scored a touchdown on a 39-yard run with 10:11 left to go in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was good.
With 10:11 left to go in the second quarter the score was Caledonia 14 and Triton 0.
Triton got the ball back after the touchdown. They wanted to keep the ball on the ground and pound it down the middle of the field. Triton got the ball into Jason Jennings hands. He did good job of gaining yards throughout the first half.
Both defenses stepped up big in the first half. They were each able to step up and make big plays in the first half.
At halftime the score was Caledonia 14 and Triton 0.
Triton kicked off to Caledonia to start the third quarter. Caledonia continued to run the ball in the third quarter. They were not able to get a first down and they had to punt the ball back to Triton.
Triton was picked off on their drive and that gave Caledonia the ball back. On the next play Caledonia fumbled the ball and Triton came up with the ball.
Triton was not able to get a first down and they turned the ball over to Caledonia. Caledonia’s Conner McCormick came up with the 12-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 3:02 left to go in the third quarter the score was Caledonia 21 and Triton 0.
Caledonia kicked off to Triton after the touchdown. Triton kept the ball on the ground as they did most of the game.
Triton’s Jason Jennings scored a touchdown on a two-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 37 seconds left in the third quarter the score was Caledonia 21 and Triton 7. That was the score at the end of the third quarter.
Caledonia got the ball to begin the third quarter. Caledonia got the ball on fourth down and they went for it and were able to get the first down.
Triton threatened to score late in the contest. They were not able to convert on downs and they turned it over to Caledonia.
With 1:00 left to go in the contest Josh Gran ran 67 yards for a touchdown for Caledonia. Justin Felten’s extra point attempt was good.
Caledonia came away with the 28-7 victory over Triton. With that victory Caledonia wins the 2010 MSHSL Class AA state title.
After the game I was able to talk to Caledonia’s Conner McCormick and head coach Brent Schroeder about the game.
