CONCORDIA ST. PAUL UNIVERSITY MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM TOOK ON HAMLINE IN AN EXHIBITION CONTEST


The Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears men’s basketball team took on the Pipers from Hamline University in an exhibition game at the Ganglehoff Center.


Hamline started the game in a man-to-man defense. They were able to get out to an early 7-0 lead with 17:13 left in the first half.


Concordia St. Paul was not able to get on the board. They had trouble shooting the ball. They used their first 30-second timeout when they were down 10-0 with 16:46 to go in the first half.


Hamline went to a zone defense in the first half. Hamline wanted to spread Concordia out. They wanted to keep the defensive pressure up on Concordia.


Concordia St. Paul went on a run. They got back into the contest.


With 12:14 left to go in the first half the score was Concordia St. Paul 8 and Hamline 10. Hamline decided to take a time out.


With 9:23 left to go in the first half there was a media time out. The score was Concordia St. Paul 10 and Hamline 14.


Hamline looked to run with the ball when they were in transition. He wanted to get the ball out of the basket and get the ball down the court to score an easy basket.


For Concordia St. Paul Courtney Lynn Tyler did a good job of handling the ball on the offense end. He was able to take his defenders off the dribble and made hard drives to the basket.


Even though Hamline got out to a quick start Concordia St. Paul battled back throughout the first half.


Peter Olafeso for Concordia St. Paul stepped up and knocked down some key shots in the first half. His teammates got him the ball in spots where they knew that he could make the shot. At halftime he led all scorers with 17 points.


In a half that saw Hamline open the game on a run and Concordia St. Paul make a comeback. The score at half time was Hamline 33 and Concordia St. Paul 28.


As the second half got underway both teams stepped up their intensity. Neither team backed down from each other.


The pace of the game was quick in the beginning of the second half. Both teams scored baskets at a quick pace for a period of time in the second half.


Hamline went to a man-to-man defense. They looked to slow Concordia St. Paul down.


Hamline make Concordia St. Paul work for everything that they got. They did not want to have Concordia St. Paul to get an uncontested shot.


Concordia St. Paul went into a zone defense. They were effective in both the zone and the man-to-man defense throughout the game.


Concordia St. Paul went on a run midway through the second half. With 9:46 left to go in regulation the score was Concordia St. Paul 58 and Hamline 49.


Hamline went cold. They were not able to make a shot for a period of time. Concordia St. Paul was able to capitalize.


After being down to begin the game Concordia St. Paul battled throughout the game and they were able to come away with a hard fought 76-58 victory over Hamline University.


The leading scorers for Hamline were Mike Campbell with 14 points and Carl Hipp with 10 points. The leading scorers for Concordia St. Paul were Peter Olafeso with 21 points and Kenny Olafeso with 14 points.
