MAPLE GROVE WENT UP AGAINST MINNETONKA IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

Maple Grove and Minnetonka squared off in a basketball game. Minnetonka looked to control the tempo of the game early.

Maple Grove started out in a zone defense. They didn’t want Minnetonka to score baskets in transition. Maple Grove did a good job of slowing down the Minnetonka offense.

Maple Grove’s Tywhon Pickford was all over the floor. He was able to hit his mid-range jump shots and was also able to drive past his defenders.  

Neither team hit many quick shots early. The defense made it tough for both teams to get open looks at the basket.

Minnetonka called a timeout with 10:47 left in the first half. The score was Maple Grove 7, Minnetonka 3.

Minnetonka continued to push the ball down the floor as they looked to get steals and make layups.

Maple Grove’s Jack Hutchison stepped up and knocked down some deep three-point shots coming off screens. Hutchison was also able to get past his defenders.  

Neither team really went on a substantial run in the first half. Maple Grove took advantage of their quickness and was able to score layups in transition.

At halftime the score was Maple Grove 22, Minnetonka 17.

As the second half got underway Maple Grove continued to push the ball down the floor and was able to make quick baskets.

However Minnetonka fought back and used their quickness to come up with steals and layups.

The score went back and forth midway through the second quarter.

Maple Grove’s Larry Kuhan got hot behind the three-point line as he was dead on from behind the arc.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds.

Minnetonka called a timeout with 7:09 left in the second half. The score was Maple Grove 43, Minnetonka 39.

Maple Grove continued to hit shots down the stretch. Minnetonka stepped up late in the game and found their shooting rhythm as they were able to make fast break baskets.

The score went back and forth with under four minutes in the second half. Both teams played with a lot of emotion and intensity.

Maple Grove came away with the 68-55 victory over Minnetonka.
