MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON WENT UP AGAINST CONCORDIA ST. PAUL IN A FOOTBALL GAME

It was a hot fall afternoon on Sept. 27 as Minnesota-Crookston went up against Concordia St. Paul in a football game. It was also homecoming on the campus of Concordia St. Paul. Both teams came into the game with 0-3 records.

Crookston kicked off to start the game. Concordia’s Uzziah Davis had a 47 kickoff run that gave Concordia great field possession. On the second play of the game. Russo completed a 46-yard pass to Cordell Smith for a touchdown.

The extra-point attempt was good.

With 14:05 left in the first quarter the score was Concordia 7, Crookston 0.

Crookston took over after the touchdown. They got the ball on their own 29 yard line. Crookston kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. They were not able to get a first drive so they punted on fourth-and-seven. The ball went into the end zone for a touchback.

Concordia got the ball on their own 20 yard line.  Concordia’s Tre Spears was all over the field as he was able to get past the defenders. They punted on fourth-and one.

Crookston took over on the 48 yard line. Crookston’s Talo Pascal tried to get down the field but the defense was able to slow him down and bring him down for a loss of yards. On fourth-and-12 Crookston punted the ball.

Concordia took over on their own 14 yard line. Concordia quarterback Ben Schramski came into the game at the quarterback spot. He was able to get the ball into the ball into the hands of Spears who came up with a rushing first down.  

Concordia called a timeout with 8:45 left in the first quarter. The score was Concordia 7, Crookston 0.

Smith came up with another reception for a first down in the red zone. Concordia was plagued penalties that backed the offense up. On fourth-and-28 Obarski attempted a 45-yard field goal which was good.

With 5:51 left in the first quarter the score was Concordia 10, Crookston 0.

Obarski kicked off after the field goal. Crookston took over on their own 27 yard line.  Jordan Hester came up with a huge reception for a first down.  

Crookston’s Dew Person also came up with some short runs. Concordia’s Abdullah Asad came up with an interception.

Concordia took over on the 44 yard line. Penalties hampered the Concordia offense. On fourth-and-15 Concordia had to punt.  

Crookston took over on their own eight yard line. Pascal came up with a 15 yard run for a touchdown.  

After one quarter of play the score was Concordia 10, Crookston 0.

Crookston was intercepted and Concordia took over the Crookston 34 yard line. The offense couldn’t get the offense going and Obarski attempted a 48-yard field goal which was good.

With 13:37 left in the second quarter the score was Concordia 13, Crookston 0.

The kickoff went out of the end zone so Crookston took over on the 20 yard line.

Crookston called a timeout with 12:48 left in the second half. The score was Concordia 13,
Crookston 0.

Crookston looked to get the ball into the air to move down the field. Hester kept on coming up with big plays to keep the offense in rhythm. Crookston’s Michael Maw attempted a 37-yard field goal attempt which was good.

With 7:32 left in the second quarter the score was Concordia 13, Crookston 3.

Crookston kicked off after the field goal. Davis came up with a 35 yard run.  

Concordia took over on their own 41 yard line. Spears continued to come up with big plays to keep his team in the game. Steven Hagen came up with a catch that put Concordia in the red zone. They looked to get the ball into the end zone. Concordia fumbled the ball and Crookston took over on the 24 yard line.

Crookston had trouble moving the ball down the field and they had to punt on fourth-and-16.  

Concordia took over at midfield. Concordia looked to get the ball into the end zone late in the quarter. They did just that as Smith came up with a two yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was good. There was 4 seconds left in the second quarter.

Crookston down the ball to end out the second quarter.  

At halftime the score was Concordia 20, Crookston 3.

Concordia kicked off to start the third quarter. Concordia’s JeQuan Rushing got into the face of a
Crookston player and they were both assessed a penalty.  Neither player was ejected.

Crookston took over on their 30 yard line. Pascal fumbled the ball and Concordia took over on their own 39 yard line. Concordia had to punt on fourth-and-10.

Crookston took over on their own 15 yard line. Crookston tried to get the ball down field any way that they could.  The defense was able to make quarterback Ben Bucholz uncomfortable in the pocket.

Concordia took over on the Crookston 34 yard line. Davis got the ball into his hands and was able get close to a first down.  

Crookston called a timeout with 10:27 left in the third quarter. The score was Concordia 20, Crookston 3.

After Crookston called a timeout, Obarski attempted a 47-yard field goal which was good.

After the field goal with 10:22 left in the third quarter. The score was Concordia 23, Crookston 3.

Obarski kicked the ball out of the end zone for a touchback and Crookston took over on the 25 yard line.

Crookston‘s Marcus Cheatham came up with a reception. Teammate Jordan Hester also came up with some good catches throughout the game. The Crookston offense went in spurts. Sometimes they did a good job of moving the ball down the field and then they couldn’t move the ball down the field. On fourth-and-seven Crookston elected to punt.

Concordia took over on their own 23 yard line.  

Spears got the ball in his hands as he looked to keep picking up the first down. Concordia went for it on fourth-and-two. Spears came up with a 23 yard first down run. Crookston’s Jamaal Burgess incepted a pass to give his team the ball back.

Crookston was not able to move the ball and they had to punt on fourth-and-seven.

Concordia took over on their 42 yard line. Concordia kept on getting the ball into the hands of Spears. The defense had a hard time of slowing him down. Russo came up with a 15 yard run for a first down.  

After three quarters of play the score was Concordia 23, Crookston 3.

On the first play of the fourth quarter Sammy Bacham came up with a 25-yard touchdown reception.

Obarski’s extra-point attempt was good.

With 14:55 left in the fourth quarter the Concordia 30, Crookston 3.

Crookston took over on the 33 yard line. Once again Crookston had difficulties moving the ball down the field. Crookston punted the ball on fourth-and-nine.

Concordia took over on their 27 yard line. Concordia was able to move the ball down the field as Spears broke through the defense. Vantwon Melton came up with a first down reception. Hagan came up with a 20 yard reception for a first down. Spears came up with a 24-yard touchdown run.

The extra-point attempt was good.

With 10:08 left in the fourth quarter the score was Concordia 37, Crookston 3.

Crookston took over on their own 33 yard line. Crookston once again was not able to get a first down so they punted on fourth down.   

Concordia took over on their own 39 yard line. Concordia marched down the field and was able to get into the red zone. Russel came up with a one yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 2:06 left in regulation the score was Concordia 44, Crookston 3.

In a game that started out fast for Concordia they were able to keep the offensive pressure on Crookston. Concordia came away with the 44-3 victory over Crookston.
