SOUTH ST. PAUL WENT UP AGAINST FRIDLEY IN THE CLASS 4 A STATE QUARTERFINALS

On Oct. 30, Macalester College was the side of the state Class 4A state football quarterfinals.

South St. Paul kicked off to start the game.

Fridley looked to keep the ball down the field early. Fridley was intercepted by Ryan Duffy.

South St. Paul took over on their own 48-yard line. South St. Paul kept the ball on the ground on their first drive of the game. South St. Paul got on the board on a 20-yard run by Anthony Perez. 

The extra-point attempt by Sam Rohrer was good.

With 9:02 left in the first quarter, the score was South St. Paul 7. Fridley 0.

Fridley took over deep in their own zone.

South St. Paul got the ball back after a fumble and they found the end zone on a Dan Pietruszewski for a 4-yard gain run with 4:11 left in the first quarter. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 1:33 left in the first quarter the score was South St. Paul 21, Fridley 0.

Fridley took over near midfield but they fumbled the ball and South St. Paul took over.

After one quarter of play the score was South St. Paul 21 and Fridley 0.

Fridley looked to keep the ball on the ground. Fridley looked to get into the end zone midway through the second quarter.

Fridley turned the ball over on downs. South St. Paul got the ball into to the hands of Pietruszewski.

He was able to come up with first downs.

South St. Paul’s Ryan Duffy came up with a huge first down reception that got the ball to the 8-yard line. South St. Paul found the end zone on an 8-yard touchdown run by Perez .The extra-point attempt was good.

With 2:18 left in the second quarter the score was South St. Paul 28, Fridley 0.

Fridley found the end zone on a 33-yard pass from Caruthers to Andre Swayne for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 1:01 left in the first quarter the score was South St. Paul 28, Fridley 7. That was the score at halftime.

At halftime the score was South St. Paul 28, Fridley 7.

South St. Paul got the ball to start the third quarter. Fridley intercepted the ball on their own 8-yard line.

South St. Paul got a safety with 8:32 left in the third quarter. The score was South St. Paul 30, Fridley 7.

South St. Paul got the ball back on downs. They drove down the field and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Pietruszewski. The extra-point attempt by Rohrer was good.

With 4:10 left in the third quarter the score was South St. Paul 37, Fridley 7.

Fridley turned it over on downs.

After three quarter of play the score was South St. Paul 37, Fridley 7.

As the fourth quarter got underway South St. Paul turned the ball over on downs.

Both teams couldn’t move the ball down the field throughout the fourth quarter.

Fridley’s Tyree Caruthers came up with a 53-yard touchdown reception with 47.2 seconds left to go in the fourth quarter. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 47.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter the score was South St. Paul 37, Fridley 14.
