EAST RIDGE WENT UP AGAINST WAYZATA IN THE CLASS 6A STATE QUARTERFINAL FOOTBALL GAME

On Oct. 29 East Ridge and Wayzata squared off in the Class 6A state quarterfinals of the state tournament. The game was played at the Edina Community Center.
 
East Ridge kicked off to start the game. Wayzata got the ball on their own 20-yard line. Wayzata’s Brady Galbraith came up with a huge reception for a first down. The defense stepped up and on 4th-and-2 Wayzata punted the ball.
 
East Ridge took on their own 33-yard line. East Ridge kept the ball on the ground as quarterback Otumus Payemanu came up with some huge runs that resulted in a first down. Dominik London came up with an 8-yard touchdown with 7:46 left in the first quarter. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 7:46 left in the first quarter the score was East Ridge 7, Wayzata 0.
 
Wayzata got the ball on the 20-yard line and they couldn’t move the ball on 4th-and-8 they elected to punt.
 
East Ridge took over on their own 44-yard line. Payemanu came up with some big runs that moved the chains.
 
East Ridge called a timeout with 4:50 left in the first quarter. The score was East Ridge 7, Wayzata 0.
 
East Ridge continued to move the ball down the field. Connor Mohs ran for a 1-yard touchdown run.
 
The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 3:07 left in the first quarter. The score was East Ridge 14, Wayzata 0.
 
The kick went into the end zone for a touchback. Wayzata looked to move the ball down the field quickly as they went to the running game.
 
After one quarter of play the score was East Ridge 14, Wayzata 0.
 
Wayzata punted the ball on 4th-and-9. East Ridge was intercepted by Sam Kolpin. Wayzata came up with a touchdown on a 1-yard touchdown by Foster Conzet. The extra-point was good.
 
With 11:16 left in the second quarter the score was East Ridge 14, Wayzata 7.
 
The ball went into the end zone for a touchback. East Ridge looked to move the ball down the ground as Payemanu continued to get the ball in his hands. On 4th-and-8 East Ridge punted the ball.
 
Wayzata took over on their own 32-yard line. Wayzata’s Tyler Didier Wayzata’s 68 yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 7:09 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 14.
 
East Ridge’s Dominik London came up with some huge runs that moved the chains. The defense had a difficult time slowing him down.
 
East Ridge called a timeout with 3:00 left in the second quarter.
 
Conzet came up with a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:35 left in the second quarter. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 1:35 left in the second quarter the score was Wayzata 21, East Ridge 14.
 
East Ridge took over on their own 48 yard line. East Ridge continued to pound the ball down the field. East Ridge punted on 4th down.
 
At halftime the score was Wayzata 21, East Ridge 14.
 
As the third quarter got underway East Ridge got the ball on their own 30-yard line. East Ridge kept the ball on the ground on their first drive of the quarter. London continued to come up with huge plays and was able to move the ball down the field. East Ridge’s Payemanu came up with a 7-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 9:30 left to go in the third quarter the score was tied at 21.
 
East Ridge was intercepted by Parker Hlavacek and Wayzata took over. Wayzata punted on 4th down.
 
East Ridge kept the ball on the field but on 4th-and-3 they punted. The Wayzata defense got to the punter and tackled him.
 
Wayzata took over on the East Ridge 37-yard line. Wayzata was able to drive down the field.
 
After three quarters of play the score was tied at 21.
 
Wayzata looked to get into the end zone. They did as Jake Marsh found Grant Slavik came up with an 8-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was good. With 9:58 left in the fourth quarter the score was Wayzata 28, East Ridge 21.
 
East Ridge took over on their own 33-yard line. They kept the ball in London’s hands. London looked to get into the end zone midway through the fourth quarter. Payemanu came up with a 1-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 6:09 left in the fourth quarter the score was tied at 68.
 
Wayzata took over on their own 20-yard line. Wayzata moved quickly down the field as they didn’t want to take a lot of time off the clock. Wayzata punted on 4th-and-5.
 
East Ridge couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted on 4th-and-6.
 
Wayzata took over on the 38-yard line. They couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted on 4th down.
 
East Ridge’s Grant Ryerse attempted a 42-yard field goal which was good. That was the winning field goal.
 
East Ridge came up with the 31-28 victory over Wayzata.
