MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN WENT UP AGAINST MINNETONKA IN THE CLASS AA STATE SOCCER QUARTERFINALS

On Oct. 27 Minneapolis Washburn and Minnetonka squared off in the state quarterfinals in boys soccer. The game was played at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School on a cool and raining evening. Going into the game Washburn had a record of 11-4-3 while Minnetonka had a record of 16-3-0.
 
Washburn looked to get the ball down the field quickly as they got everyone involved in the play.
Minnetonka also did a good job of moving the ball down the field.
 
Washburn was able to take quality shots on goal but the goalie came up with some big saves.
 
Washburn’s Mitchell Taylor scored a goal with 21:53 left in the first half. JP Ferreira came up with the assist. With that goal that made the score Washburn 1, Minnetonka 0.
 
Washburn’s Luke Peterson scored goal with 17:37 left in the first half. The assist went to Mohamed Kalmoy. With that goal that made the score Washburn 2, Minnetonka 0.
 
Washburn continued to a move the ball down the field well as they were able to take shots on goal.
 
Minnetonka’s Finn Histon scored a goal with 2:14 left in the first half.
 
With that goal that made the score Washburn 2, Minnetonka 1.That was the score at halftime.
 
As the second half got underway Washburn continued to move the ball down the field well.
 
Washburn’s Peterson with the assist going to Alex Batt scored a goal with 23:35 left in the second half. With that goal that made the score Washburn 3, Minnetonka 1.
 
Washburn continued to move the ball down the field midway through the second half.
 
Minnetonka’s Nagu Chidambaram scored a goal off a header with 10:45. The assist went to Suad Suljic.
 
With that goal that made the score Washburn 3, Minnetonka 2.
 
Minnetonka scored another goal by Avery Weaver with the assist going to Histon with 10:14 left in the second half.
 
The game was tied after regulation.
 
There was a 10 minute overtime period. Both teams attacked the net aggressively throughout the overtime period.
 
With 3:03 left in the first overtime Washburn’s Sam Abrams came up with the winning goal.
 
Washburn came away with the 4-3 victory over Minnetonka. With that goal Washburn advances to the semifinals.
