ST. CLOUD STATE TOOK ON WINONA STATE IN THE NSIC MEN'S BASKTBALL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

St. Cloud State took on Winona State in the NSIC men's basketball conference championship game.
 
St. Cloud State started the game in a man-to-man defense. They wanted to apply as much pressure on
Winona State as they could.
 
Winona State opened the game on a run. They were able to hit consecutive shots down the floor.
 
At the first media timeout with 15:26 left in the first half the score was Winona State 8 and St. Cloud
State 3.
 
Winona State continued to pass the ball around the three-point line. They were successful at taking a
lot of time off the shot clock.
 
Nate Lamare Phillips came off the bench for St. Cloud. Phillips did a good job of getting his teammates
involved in the offense.
 
At the second media timeout the score was Winona State 15 and St. Cloud State 6.
 
Phillips was able to get his shot going midway through the first half.
 
Winona State went to a zone defense. They played mostly zone defense throughout the tournament.
 
At halftime the score was Winona State 22 and St. Cloud State 15.
 
As the second half got underway St. Cloud State looked like they had a lot of firepower.
 
Winona State played aggressive man-to-man defense.
 
At the first media timeout with 15:36 left in regulation the score was Winona State 26 and St. Cloud
State 18.
 
St. Cloud State went on a run after the first media timeout. Taylor Witt was their scoring machine. St.
Cloud State looked for Witt to score from all over the court.
 
Both teams dove on the court after loose balls.
 
With 11:15 left in regulation the score was Winona State 34 and St. Cloud State 23.
 
Winona State continued to make their shots throughout the second half.
 
St. Cloud State’s shooting went cold in the second half. They went without a basket for a long period in the second half.
 
Winona State continued to take the ball strong to the basket and make their shots.
 
At the 7:35 media timeout the score was Winona State 41 and St. Cloud State 28.
 
Winona State was on fire. St. Cloud State called a timeout with 6:36 left in regulation. The score was
Winona State 48 and St. Cloud State 48.
 
Winona States Clayton Vette stepped up big time and hit his shots down the stretch.
 
At the final media timeout the score was Winona State 50 and St. Cloud State 34.
 
Winona State put on a show throughout the championship game. They were able to come away with a
58-41 victory over St. Cloud State.
 
Winona State shot 24-55 from the field. That included going 5-19 from behind the thee-point line.
 
They also shot 5-10 from the free throw line. They were led in scoring by Clayton Vette with 17 points
and John Walberg with 12 points.
 
St. Cloud State shot 13-26 from the field. That included going 6-17 from behind the three-point line.
They shot 9-12 from the free throw line. St. Cloud State was led in scoring by Taylor Witt with 13
points and Brett Putz with 13 points. Nate Lamare Phillips ended with 4 points.
