NRHEG (New Richland) took on
Minneapolis Washburn in the girls state class AA basketball semifinal
game. The game got off to a quick start. Washburn got up to a quick
10-6 start with 13:30 left in the first half.
Washburn did a good job of moving the
ball around the three-point line as they were able to take their time
on the offensive end.
Washburn went on a run midway in the
first half. New Richland was not able to hit shots for a period of
time in the first half.
There was a media timeout with 10:47
left in the first half. The score was Washburn 17 and New Richland
11.
New Richland strung some baskets
together midway through the first half.
There was a media timeout with 6:43
left in the first half. The score was Washburn 21 and New Richland
18.
New Richland was able to catch up to
Washburn. They called a timeout with 5:35 left in the first half.
The score was Washburn 21 and New
Richland 19.
The score was close late in the first
half.
New Richland went to a zone defense
late in the first half. That was able to take Washburn out of there
game mind set.
The crowd was really into the game.
Both teams brought down a very good cheering section.
At halftime the score was New Richland
32 and Washburn 29.
As the second half got off to a quick
start.
At the first media break of the first
half the score was New Richland 40 and Washburn 34.
Both teams raced up and down the floor
in the second half. They were each looking to get fast break baskets.
Carlie Wagner was all over the floor
for New Richland. She was able to come up with some big plays
throughout the contest for her team.
New Richland went on a run midway
through the second half. They had a 50-43 lead with 8:30 left in
regulation.
Washburn fought back throughout the
final minutes of the contest. They fought to the end of the game.
Both teams played very well.
Washburn got it to with in two points at
57-55 with 2:47 left in regulation.
New Richland went on a run late in the
game and Washburn was not able to hang on down the stretch.
New Richland was able to hang on and
come away with the 69-60 victory over Minneapolis Washburn.
The leading scorers for Washburn were
Natalie Holdahl with 17 points, Chase Coley with 16 points and Megan
Lucas with 14 points.
The leading scorer for New Richland was
Carlie Wagner with 48 points.
