On Jan. 13, Irondale and Anoka squared off in a boys' basketball game. Irondale started the game out in a zone defense. They picked up their pressure in the full court.
Anoka looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Anoka also started the game in a zone defense.
Irondale picked up man-to-man after free throws.
It took a while for each team to get into a scoring rhythm.
Anoka called a timeout with 15:16 left in the first half. The score was Anoka 8, Irondale 6.
The score went back and forth for a period of time in the first half. Neither team went on a huge run.
Anoka’s Gunnar Ledin and Jackson Sutton both game up with mid-range jump shots and layups. There teammates did a good job of getting them the ball where they could shoot.
Irondale did a good job of moving the ball down the floor. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense.
Irondale’s Kevin Schramm came up with big 3-point baskets. If Schramm didn’t think that he had a good shot, he passed it off to one of his teammates. Teammate Sean Sutherlin also did a good job of attacking the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Irondale called a timeout with 7:31 left in the first half. The score was Anoka 29, Irondale 24.
Irondale’s Uwana Etuk-Akpan came off screens and was able to get to the basket and make layups.
He was also able to make mid-range jump shots.
At halftime the score was Anoka 41, Irondale 38.
As the second half got underway Irondale continued to push the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.
Anoka called a timeout with 14:38 left in regulation. The score was Irondale 50, Anoka 45.
Anoka tied the game at 50 with just over 13 minutes left in regulation.
Ledin continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates kept feeding him the ball.
Irondale called a timeout with 10:47 left in regulation. The score was Anoka 58, Irondale 53.
Irondale passed the ball around the 3-point line and got the ball into the hands of Sean Sutherlin.
Sutherlin got hot from behind the 3-point line. He also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a tough time slowing Sutherlin down.
Anoka called a timeout with 7:25 left in regulation. The score was Anoka 62, Irondale 61.
There were several ties and lead changes in the second half.
Anoka called a timeout with 3:21 left in regulation. The score was Irondale 71, Anoka 68.
Irondale looked to get the ball into the hands of Schramm late in the game. Schramm kept on attacking the basket looking for layups.
Irondale called a timeout with 24 seconds left in regulation. The score was tied at 73.
The game was tied at 73 at the end of regulation.
Sutherlin came up with layups in the overtime period. His teammates did a good job of feeding him the ball in the lane.
Irondale came away with the 84-76 victory over Anoka.
Irondale’s Sutherlin 34 finished with 34 points and Schramm ended with 18 points.
Anoka’s Liden finished with 24 points.
