On Nov. 16, Dawson-Boyd and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s went up against each other in the state Class A football semifinals at the Metrodome.
Sleepy Eye kicked off to start the game. Dawson-Boyd had trouble moving the ball on their first drive of the game. They punted the ball on fourth-and-13.
Sleepy Eye also had trouble moving the ball in the first quarter.
Dawson-Boyd’s Joey Lee ran with the ball well. He was able to pick up a first down. Joey Lee found Michael Lee for a 36-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
With 6:29 left in the first quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 7, St. Mary’s 0.
St. Mary’s was not able to get a first down so they had to punt on fourth down.
Dawson-Boyd continued to look to move the ball down the field. On fourth-and-six, Dawson-Boyd punted the ball to St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s got the ball on their own 21 yard line. They punted the ball on fourth-and-17. Dawson Boyd got the ball on their own 35 yard line.
After one quarter of play the score was Dawson-Boyd 7, St. Mary’s 0.
Dawson Boyd got into the end zone on a Joey Lee one-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.
With 10:07 left in the second quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 13, St. Mary’s 0.
St. Mary’s got the ball back and they kept it on the ground. They were not able to get a first down so they turned it over on downs.
Dawson-Boyd got the ball back on their own 45 yard line. They were not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball on fourth-and-13.
St. Mary’s got the ball back and they went four downs and out. Dawson-Boyd received the ball on the turnover on downs by St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s found the end zone on a 31-yard run by Brandon Helget. The two-point conversion was no good. With 2:32 left in the second quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 13, St. Mary’s 6.
Dawson-Boyd got the ball back after the touchdown.
At halftime the score was Dawson-Boyd 13, St. Mary’s 6.
St. Mary’s got the ball to start the third quarter. Helget Brandon passed to David for 63 yards for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 9:58 left in the third quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 13, St. Mary’s 13.
Dawson-Boyd’s Joey Lee found Noah Stelter for 24-yard touchdown reception. The two point conversion pass by Joey Lee was complete to Stelter.
With 7:35 left in the third quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 21, St. Mary’s 13.
St. Mary’s was not able to get a first down so they turned it over on downs. Dawson-Boyd punted the ball on fourth-and-three.
After three quarters of play the score was Dawson-Boyd 21, St. Mary’s 12.
St. Mary’s marched down the field in the fourth quarter. Brandon Helget came up with nice pass to Kosak Kodan for 21 yards. That put the ball on the six yard line. They turned the ball over on downs.
Joey Lee found the end zone on a 38-yard run. The extra point attempt was no good. With 4:27 left in the fourth quarter the score was Dawson-Boyd 27, St. Mary’s 12.
St. Mary’s looked to get into the endzone late in the fourth quarter. They did just that as Brandon Helget ran for a four-yard touchdown. The two point conversion was no good.
Dawson-Boyd was all over the field. They were able to come away with the 27-18 victory over St. Mary’s.
After the game I was able to talk to Dawson-Boyd’s head coach Cory Larson about the game. I was also able to talk to Michael Lee and Joey Lee about the game.
