DELASALLE AND DETROIT LAKES WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A CLASS AAAA STATE FOOTBALL QUARTERFINAL GAME

Minneapolis DeLaSalle and Detroit Lakes went up against each other at St. Cloud State University in a class AAA state football quarterfinal.
 
Detroit Lakes kicked off to DeLaSalle to start the game.  DeLaSalle looked to keep the ball on the ground early in the game. Chris Williams for DeLaSalle picked up a first down. On fourth-and-ten, DeLaSalle looked to punt the ball but they went for a trick play. They ended up running it instead but they were not able to pick up a first down.
 
Detroit Lakes got the ball on the 49 yard line. They moved the ball down the field quickly. Then Michael Herzog ran in for a 12-yard touchdown.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 9:20 left in the first quarter the score was Detroit Lakes 7, DeLaSalle 0.
 
DeLaSalle got the ball on the 8 yard line. The Detroit Lakes defense stepped up big as they were able to force DeLaSalle to punt the ball on fourth-and-five.
 
Detroit Lakes’ Jerett Nosal came up with a big rushing plays for his team. The DeLaSalle defense stepped up big as Isaac Hodge intercepted a pass to give his team the ball back.
 
DeLaSalle got the ball on the 14 yard line. Then DeLasalle ran a few plays as they looked to get into the end zone. Williams ran three yards for a touchdown.
 
The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 5:05 left in the first period the score was Detroit Lakes 7, DeLaSalle 6.
 
Detroit Lakes looked to keep the ball on the ground. Detroit Lakes punted the ball on fourth-and-seven.
 
DeLaSalle used both the pass and the running attack in the first quarter.
 
After one quarter of play the score was Detroit Lakes 7, DeLaSalle 6.
 
Detroit Lakes’ Tanner Schnathorst came up with some nice rushes for his team.  He was able to pick up some first downs midway through the second quarter. DeLaSalle got the ball back on as a punt on fourth down.
 
DeLaSalle’s Chris Williams ran 11 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was good. The score with 5:52 left in the second quarter was DeLaSalle 13, Detroit Lakes 7.  
 
Detroit Lakes turned it over on downs.
 
DeLaSalle looked to get Williams the ball again. Williams came up big again late as he ran eight yards for a touchdown. The extra point was good.
 
With 2:06 left in the second quarter the score was DeLaSalle 20, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
Both teams’ running attack was good. In the first half however. DeLaSalle was a little bit quicker than Detroit Lakes.
 
At halftime the score was DeLaSalle 20, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
DeLaSalle kicked off to start the third quarter.  There was no return on the kick off.
 
Detroit Lakes kept the ball on the ground on their first series. The DeLaSalle defense stepped up big as they forced Detroit Lakes over on downs
 
Williams looked to chew up some field as he picked up 27 yards on a rush. Williams picked up a touchdown on a 15-yard run.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 7:44 left in the third quarter the scored was DeLaSalle 27, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
DeLaSalle Cornell King intercepted a pass and ran it back to the six yard line. Williams scored a six-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 5:56 left in the game the score was DeLaSalle 34, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
Detroit Lakes got the ball back as they looked to get it into the end zone.
 
After three quarters of play the score was DeLaSalle 34, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
As the game wore down both teams looked tired and lackluster. There were dropped passes and missed plays on both teams.  
 
Williams had another touchdown on a two-yard run. The two point conversion was good.
 
With 6:44 left in the fourth quarter the score was DeLaSalle 42, Detroit Lakes 7.
 
The ball went back and forth between these teams late in the fourth quarter.
 
It was a hard-fought game. DeLaSalle got up early and was able to shut the Detroit Lakes offense down.
 
DeLaSalle came away with the 42-7 victory over Detroit Lakes.
 
After the game I was able to talk to DeLaSalle’s Williams about the quarterfinal victory.
