KANSAS TOOK ON THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA GOPHERS IN A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

Kansas and Minnesota went up against each other in a women’s basketball game at Williams Arena.
 
Minnesota looked to get the ball out of the basket on the defensive end and get the ball down the floor early in the contest.  
 
Minnesota was able to use a lot of time off of the clock. The Kansas pressure seemed to bother the Gophers early as they were not able to get open looks at the basket.
 
Both teams did a good job of using a lot of time off of the shot clock. Neither team shot looked to shoot the ball with more than 15 seconds on the shot clock.
 
Kansas did a good job of getting the ball out as they looked to score layups in transition.
 
There was a media timeout with 15:15 left in the first half. The score was Kansas 7, Minnesota 2.
 
Kansas guard Lamaria Cole was all over the floor. She set up plays that she wanted run. She would let her teammates know where they were supposed to be on the floor. Cole was a leader on the court.
 
It was a defensive battle in the first half. Even though Minnesota had a difficult time shooting the ball, they didn’t give Kansas easy looks at the basket.
 
Minnesota strung some baskets together and Kansas was not able to counter.
 
Minnesota called a timeout with 9:31 left in the first half. The score was Kansas 17, Minnesota 11.
 
Minnesota did a good job of getting the ball out in transition. They just had trouble getting their shots to drop.
 
There was a media timeout with 7:01 left in the first half. The score was Kansas 21, Minnesota 13.
 
Minnesota continued to look to the basket as they wanted to score on open layups and jump shots.
 
Minnesota’s Amanda Zahui came up with some big blocks. That created turnovers.
 
There was the final media timeout of the first half was at 3:56 left in the first half. The score was Kansas 27, Minnesota 19.
 
In the last 3:36 of the first half Rachel Banham took over. She came up with a few nice baskets.
 
Minnesota continued to drive to the basket late as they were able to catch ground on Kansas.
 
At halftime the score was Kansas 32, Minnesota 30.
 
The score went back and forth to open the second half. Minnesota came out on fire. Kansas called a timeout with 16:52 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 38, Kansas 35.
 
The score remained close throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run early in the second half.
 
Stabresa McDaniel for Minnesota came up with some nice defensive stops.
 
There was a media timeout with 11:34 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 46, Kansas 40.
 
Minnesota shot the ball well in the second half. They were able to come out strong as everyone for the Gophers stepped up and shot the ball better in the second half.
 
The Kansas offense couldn’t get clicking in the second half. The Gopher defense was able to make plays and slow them down.
 
At the final media timeout with 3:30 left in regulation the score was Minnesota 58 Kansas 49.
 
Kansas went on a run and was able to get it to within 3 at 60-57 with 1:30 left.
 
Minnesota got hot in the last 1:30 as they disturbed the ball well and went on a 10-2 run to end the game.
 
Minnesota came away with the 70-59 victory over Kansas.
 
The leading scorers for Kansas were Chelsea Gardner with 10 points, Asia Boyd with 13 points and CeCe Harper with 17 points.
 
The leading scorers for Minnesota were Shayne Mullaney and Amanda Zahui with 11 and Micaella Riche with 20 points and Rachel Banham with 26 points.
 
After the game Shayne Mullaney, Amanda Zahui, and Pam Borton addressed the media to talk about the game.
 
Minnesota's Amanda Zahui broke the school record for blocks in game with 8. The record has been 7 since January 31, 1981.
