Bloomington Jefferson hosted a boys’ basketball jamboree. Teams were spread out on four courts in the activity center. There was no score kept, not even anyone at the scorers table. In the first game Eden Prairie High School took on Spring Lake Park High School.
Spring Lake Park started in a zone defense. They were able to slow down the Eden Prairie offense. Spring Lake Park took some good shots from just inside the three-point line and were able to hit them.
Spring Lake Park's Bryce Williams did a good job of taking the ball to the basket. He was able to make some nice midrange jump shots. If he was not able to take it to the basket Bryce also looked to get the ball into his open teammates who would knock down short jump shots.
I thought that both of these teams looked good at this stage of the season. Each team was able to test their lineup and different matchups on the court.
Spring Lake Park switched between man-to-man and zone defense. They did a nice job of transitioning between the two. That kept Eden Prairie guessing.
Eden Prairie looked good in their offense. They took their time and were able to make good passes and passed the ball around the three-point line.
EDEN PRAIRIE VS PELICAN RAPIDS HIGH SCHOOL
In the next scrimmage Eden Prairie took on Pelican Rapids High School. Both of these teams got off to a quick start as they both were able to get the ball and score baskets in transition.
Pelican Rapids swung the ball around the three-point line. They were looking to get the ball inside to their center Ahmed Hassan who was posting up on the low block.
Pelican Rapids point guard Wu Kuo Yang did a good job of getting the ball down the court. He was able to get the ball down the court and set up plays that got his team some easy baskets.
SPRING LAKE PARK VS PELICAN RAPIDS
Spring Lake Park took on Pelican Rapids. Pelican Rapids pushed the ball down the court and as they looked for easy baskets in transition.
Spring Lake Park looked to get the ball into the hands of Nate Woods. Nate looked to get the ball near the top of the key and he would go one-on-one with his defender.
Spring Lake Park's Collin Price was able to bring the ball down the court with ease. He was able to blow by his defenders and get easy baskets in transition.
Both teams played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I thought that Pelican Rapids was able to get into their offense and they were able to shoot holes in the Spring Lake Parks defense.
MARSHALL VS SPRING LAKE PARK
Marshall took on Spring Lake Park. Marshall looked to push the ball down the court and score baskets in transition.
Spring Lake Park set a lot of good screens. Marshall did a good job of getting through the screens that Spring Lake set.
Marshall took the ball towards the baseline and there was usually a Spring Lake Park guy on the baseline.
MARSHALL VS PELICAN RAPIDS
Marshall took on Pelican Rapids. Both teams got off to a quick start. After that they both settled down and were able to get into their offensive sets.
Both teams dove on the floor for loose balls and rebounds. Neither team was able to take an uncontested shot as the defensive pressure by both teams was very high.
Marshall took the ball to the basket and they were able to get every one involved in the offense.
PELICAN RAPIDS VS BLAINE
Pelican Rapids took on Blaine. Blaine looked to score baskets in transition. Blaine looked to get the ball into the hands of James Frazier. James was all over the court. He was able to blow by his defenders.
Pelican Rapids shot a lot of three-point shots. They were able to shoot the ball well.
I thought that both of these teams were evenly matched. They went hard after loose balls and rebounds.
MARSHALL VS BLAINE
Marshall took on Blaine in the last scrimmage. Both teams took the ball hard to the basket. Marshall had a better time of doing that as they were able to beat their guys to the basket.
Both teams looked to score baskets in transition. It was a little hard for Marshall to keep up with Blaine in transition.
Both teams looked well and they were able to run their offense.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Overall I thought that this scrimmage was run very well. I know it is early in the season but I thought that after the first two sessions each of the teams were able to get the rust knocked off their shots. Each team came prepared to play.
It also gave me a glimpse of teams that I might not get to see in a regular year. So overall I thought it was a very productive scrimmage. I also think that these scrimmages give teams the chance to go over things against other teams with officials. It’s a game-like situation.
