MOOSE LAKE/WILLOW RIVER TOOK ON CALEDONIA IN THE CLASS AA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Moose Lake/Willow River took on Caledonia in the Class AA state football championship. Caledonia kicked off to start the game. Moose Lake/Willow River was not able to get a first down on their first drive. They had to punt the ball to Caledonia.

Caledonia looked deep to get their receivers in the game early. On fourth down and 17 yards to go they punted the ball.

At the 9:00 media timeout the score was tied at 0.

Moose Lake/Willow River looked to move the ball down the field quickly. They were not able to get a first down and they punted the ball back to Caledonia.

Caledonia also kept the ball on the ground. Caledonia fumbled the ball and Moose Lake/ Willow River came up with the ball.

Caledonia called a timeout with 3:59 left in the first quarter.

Moose Lake/Willow River turned the ball over to Caledonia. Caledonia kept pounding the ball down the field.

At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 0.

Caledonia got the ball to start the second quarter. Caledonia's Kennan Bruening went to the air with a perfect fade to Adam Drenckhahn for an 11-yard touchdown with 11:08 left in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was good.

Moose Lake/Willow River got the ball back after the touchdown. Moose Lake Willow River was intercepted and Caledonia got the ball back.

Caledonia tried a field goal and it was no good.

At the 7:35 media timeout the score was Caledonia 7 and Moose Lake/Willow River 0.

Caledonia fumbled the ball and Caleb Schmidt came up with the ball for Moose Lake/Willow River. Moose Lake/Willow River looked deep and they were not able to get a first down. On fourth down and 16 yards to go they punted the ball to Caledonia.

Caledonia came up with the first down as they kept on pounding the ball down the field.

Caledonia called a timeout with 1:14 left in the second quarter. Connor McCormick came up with a one yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was not good.

Brett Colesh came up with an interception for Caledonia.

Caledonia called a timeout with 35 seconds left on the clock.

The score at halftime was Caledonia 13 and Moose Lake/Willow River 0.

Moose Lake/Willow River kicked off to Caledonia to start the third quarter. Caledonia looked deep early in the third quarter. Caledonia punted the ball on fourth down.

Moose Lake/Willow River got the ball back and they looked to keep the ball moving down the field. Moose Lake/Willow River once again was able to pick up a first down. They were stopped on fourth down but there was a flag on the play so they were able to get the first down. Moose Lake/Willow River threatened to score late in the quarter. They were stopped at the one yard line and Caledonia took over on the one yard line.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Caledonia 13 and Moose Lake/Willow River 0.

Caledonia got the ball to start the fourth quarter. Caledonia threatened to score again but the ball was fumbled and Moose Lake/Willow River recovered it.

On the next play Houston Halverson came up with an inception for Caledonia. Caledonia's Conner McCormick came up with another good play as he ran right past his defenders. On the next play he powered himself into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 3:44 left in regulation the score was Caledona 20 and Moose Lake Willow River 0.

Conner McCormick ran 38 yards for a tochdown. The extra point attempt was good.

Caledonia came away with the 27-0 victory over Moose Lake/Willow River. After the game I was able to talk to Caledonia's Houston Halverson, KennaBruening, head coach Brent Schroder, and Connor McCormick about the game.

Connor McCormick said, “The o-line stepped up big, full backs played well.”. Everyone on the team came into the game with a Mohawk haircut. I asked him about that and he said, “It’s a Caledonia tradition since like 2005 and it promotes team spirit.”
