Wheaton/Herman Norcross kicked off to start the game. Edgerton/Ellsworth got the ball on the 27 yard line. Edgerton/Ellsworth looked for to the passing game on their first series. Edgerton/Ellsworth got a first down as they kept moving the ball down the field. They looked to get the ball into the hands of Casey Schilling. Casey Schilling was all over the field. Blake Jouwstra caught a 25 yard pas from Isaac Heard for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good.
With 9:33 left in the first quarter the score was Edgerton/Ellsworth 8 and Wheaton/Herman Norcross 0.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross got the ball after the Edgerton/Ellsworth touchdown. Wheaton/Herman Norcross looked to get the ball into the hands of Tyler Schwagel. He was all over the field.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross used mostly a running attack. They tried to catch Edgerton/Ellsworth off guard.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross called a timeout with 6:15 left in the first quarter.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross was not able to get a first down and they turned it over to Edgerton/Ellsworth. They were not able to get a first down so they punted it back to Wheaton/Herman Norcross.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross got the ball and they looked to go deep. Tyler Schwagel came up with some nice plays for his team. He was the quarterback and he was able to find his receivers. Wheaton/Herman Norcross was not able to get a first down and they punted the ball back to Edgerton/Ellsworth.
Edgerton/Ellsworth punted it away again on fourth down.
At the end of the first quarter the score was Edgerton/Ellsworth 8 and Wheaton/Herman Norcross 0.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross got the ball to start the second quarter. They found the end zone on a Wolfgang Brink 4-yard touchdown run. The two point conversion run by Tyler Schwagel was unsuccessful.
With 10:56 left in the second quarter the score was Edgerton/Ellsworth 8 and Wheaton/Herman Norcross 6.
Edgerton/Ellsworth got the ball back after the touchdown and they were on fourth down and three yards to go and they called a timeout with 9:01 left in the second quarter.
Edgerton/Ellsworth was picked off and that gave Wheaton/Herman Norcross the ball back. Wheaton/Herman Norcross Wolfgang Brink came up with a nice running play to give his team another first down. They threatened to score midway through the second quarter. Tyler Schwagel found the end zone for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good.
With 3:09 left in the second quarter the score was Wheaton/Herman Norcross 14 and Edgerton/Ellsworth 8.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross kicked off after the touchdown. Edgerton/Ellsworth got the ball on the 44 yard line to start the drive. Devin Hulstein found Issac Heard in the end zone for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good.
At halftime the score was Edgerton/Ellsworth 14 and Wheaton/Herman Norcross 14.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross found the end zone on a Greg Cronen 42 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good.
With 10:42 left in the third quarter the score was Wheaton/Herman Norcross 22 and Edgerton/Ellsworth 14.
Edgerton/Ellsworth got the ball back and they made a drive to the end zone.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross was not able to get a first down and they gave the ball back to Edgerton/Ellsworth.
With 6:04 left in the third quarter. Isaac Heard found Casey Schilling for a 10-yard pass for a touchdown. The two point conversion run by Isaac Heard was good.
That tied the game at 22.
Edgerton/Ellsworth's Isaac Heard threw a strike over the middle that was caught by Devin Hulstein around midfield, who then turned up and burns the remaining defenders for a touchdown. The two point conversion pass was no good from Heard.
With 53 seconds left in the third quarter the score was Edgerton/Ellsworth 28 and Wheaton/Herman Norcross 22. That was the score after three quarters of play.
Wheaton/Herman Norcross got the ball to start the fourth quarter. They threatened to score on their first drive of the quarter and they just did that as Michael Persing found a hole around the end and punched it in for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good.
With 10:27 left in regulation the score was tied at 28.
Edgerton/Ellsworth got the ball back and they continued to keep the ball on the ground. Heard tossed a ball to Blake Jouwstra who dove and picked the ball out of the air with one hand for a fabulous touchdown. The two point conversion run up the middle by Heard was successful. Heard now owns the Prep Bowl record for passing yards with 357.
Edgerton/Ellsworth came away with the 36-28 victory over Wheaton/Herman Norcross 28.
After the game I was able to talk to Edgerton/Ellsworth's Isaac Heard, Devin Hulstein, and head coach Andrew Fleischman about the game.
Devin Hulstein said, “This championship means a lot to me. It was a back and forth game and this game proves we can win from behind.”
Head coach Devin Hulstein said, “I thought that the kids played great. Time of thanksgiving and all year we talk about having meaningful things happen to them.”
Isaac Heard said, ”Feels awesome. It was a successful season. Had good lineman. I’m good with the record but even happier with the state championship.”
