On Oct. 26, Hamline and St. Thomas University went up against each other in a football game. Hamline came with an overall record of 2-4, while St. Thomas had a record of 4-2.
Hamline kicked off to St. Thomas to start the game. St. Thomas got the ball on their own 31 yard line. St. Thomas came up with some nice plays on their first drive. Nick Waldvogel came up with some nice runs. He found holes in the Hamline defense. On fourth-and-four they went for it and were not able to come up with the first down.
Hamline started on their own 4 yard line. Hamline had difficulty moving the ball down the field. On their first drive they had many penalties that backed them up. Austin Dunkin did how ever came up with a first down on a less than a yard run. Hamline continued to get the ball into Dunkin’s hands. Naji El-Araba came up with a four-yard first down reception. There was a fumble on the play and Hamline came up with it. On fourth-and-two, Hamline punted the ball.
St. Thomas got the ball on their own 24 yard line. Waldvogel came up with a ten-yard run. Jack Gilliland came up with a first down reception. Waldvogel came up with another 14-yard reception for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 2:32 left in the first quarter the score was St. Thomas 7, Hamline 0.
Hamline got the ball on their own 24 yard line. They were not able to get a first down so they punted it on fourth down.
St. Thomas got the ball on their own 42 yard line. Ferrazzo came up with a ten-yard reception for a first down. Ferrazzo came up with multiple first downs in the first half.
After one quarter the score was St. Thomas 7, Hamline 0.
St. Thomas kept attacking on the ground as they looked to chew up the clock. On fourth-and-six St. Thomas elected to go for it. They were not able to get a first down and turned it over.
Hamline got the ball on their own 29 yard line. They looked to keep the ball on the ground. On fourth-and-six, Hamline punted the ball. St. Thomas fumbled the ball and Hamline recovered it on the 43 yard line. Dunkin came up with the three-yard rush to move the chains. Dunkin fumbled the ball and St. Thomas came up the ball on that play.
St. Thomas came up with a first down on a Jack Gilliland 15-yard reception. Waldvogel kept coming up with some big plays for his team. St. Thomas used dump plays as they looked to move the ball in five-yard chunks. They did that successfully late in the second quarter. Tim McClanahan found Cole Kelly for a 23-yard touchdown reception.
The extra point attempt was a trick play as the holder ran into the end zone for a two-point conversion.
With 6:59 left in the second quarter the score was St. Thomas 15, Hamline 0.
Hamline got the ball on their own 24 yard line. Hamline fumbled the ball and St. Thomas picked it up. John Gould came up with some nice runs late in the second quarter for his team as he was able to keep the clock moving. There was a personal foul on the defense and that brought the ball to the 10 yard line. Waldvogel came up with a four-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good.
With 3:28 left in the second quarter the score was St. Thomas 22, Hamline 0.
Hamline got the ball on their own 25 yard line. The St. Thomas defense came up big as they were able to get to the quarterback and fluster him. The defense slowed down the Hamline offense. Hamline punted the ball on fourth-and-seven.
Gould came up with a 61-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 2:10 left in the second quarter the score was St. Thomas 29, Hamline 0. That score would hold until the half.
St. Thomas kicked off to Hamline to start the third quarter. Hamline got the ball on their own 38 yard line. Duncan again came up with some big rushes for his team. Hamline looked to get into the endzone on their first drive of the third quarter. Hamline got into the end zone on a Duncan six-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
With 9:38 left in the third quarter the score was St. Thomas 29, Hamline 7.
St. Thomas got the ball on their own 33 yard line. Waldvogel kept on coming up with big catches in the third quarter to move the chains. Alex Fenske completes a 55-yard pass to Dan Noehring in the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
Hamline kept the ball on the ground. They continue to have trouble moving the ball on offense. They punted the ball on fourth-and-nine.
St. Thomas wanted to get into the end zone. St. Thomas fumbled the ball and Hamline recovered it.
Hamline moved the ball down the field on short passing routes. They were successful at making first downs late in the third quarter.
After three quarters of play the score was St. Thomas 36, Hamline 7.
Hamline turned the ball over on downs.
St. Thomas used a lot of clock in the fourth quarter. They waited a long time to get plays off as they looked to use a lot of time off the clock but not get a penalty. St. Thomas punted the ball on fourth-and-12.
Hamline got the ball on their own 8 yard line. Hamline was not able to pick up a first down on fourth-and-two, so they elected to punt.
St. Thomas took over on the Hamline 40 yard line. Alex Fenske found Greg Kriege for a 25-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 7:22 left in the fourth quarter the score was St. Thomas 43, Hamline 7.
Both teams played hard down the stretch. Neither team gave up. The ball went up and down the field late in the contest. Neither team came up with any big plays late in the contest.
In a hard fought game that was one sided from the start St. Thomas came away with the 43-7 victory over Hamline.
