TOTINO-GRACE TOOK ON BLAKE IN THE STATE GIRLS SOCCER SEMIFINALS

On Monday, Oct. 28 Totino-Grace and Blake went up against each other in the semifinals of the 2013 Minnesota State High School League state girls’ soccer tournament.

Both teams looked to attack the goal early in the contest.

With 37:50 left in the first half, Blake’s Lydia Sutton scored a goal with the assist going to Annie Lyman.

With that goal that made the score Blake 1, Totino Grace 0.

Both teams did a good job of moving the ball down the field and getting shots on goal.

Totino-Grace was not able to get quality shots on goal in the first half. Blake looked to be a little quicker on both ends of the field.

Blake’s Lauren Kelley found the back end of the goal with 10:07 left in the first half.

The score was Blake 2, Totino-Grace 0.

Both teams continued to look for shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Blake 2, Totino-Grace 0.

As the second half got underway Blake fired off four quick shots. None of them reached the back of the goal, however.

Sutton continued to get quality shots on goal throughout the second half. The defenders had a tough time covering her.

Blake moved the ball down the field well throughout the contest. Totino-Grace didn’t give up as they hustled for the ball.

Sutton was all over the field. She always seemed to know where the ball was located. If she thought that she had a good shot on goal Sutton was not afraid to shoot it.

In a hard fought game Blake came away with the 2-0 victory over Totino-Grace. I thought Sutton played well throughout the game. She was able to keep her team in the game.

After the game I was able to talk to Blake head coach Paul Menge about the game. I was also able to talk with Sutton about her performance.

With that win Blake will play either Benilde-St. Margaret’s or Mankato West in the class A championship.
