Mount Vernon pushed the ball down the floor as they wanted to look for layups in transition.
Canistota’s Shay Jolley was all over the floor. On the offensive end Shay Jolley was able to get to the basket and make layups. If Shay Jolley didn’t think that he could make the shot he wasn’t afraid to pass it to his teammates.
The score went back and forth throughout the first quarter.
Canistota played mostly zone defense in the first quarter.
After one quarter of play the score was Mount Vernon 11, Canistota 9.
Canistota came out and hit mid-range jump shots and layups in the second quarter. Canistota’s Shay Jolley continued to come up big with shots.
There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second quarter. Neither team went on a run in the first two quarters.
The score at halftime was Canistota 31, Mount Vernon 28.
Mount Vernon’s Cody Renken and Hayden Schmidt were able to make mid-range jump shots throughout. There teammates did a good job of getting them the ball where they could make pull up jump shots.
The score remained close throughout the third quarter.
Canistota came up with fast break layups in the third quarter.
After three quarters of play the score was Canistota 44, Mount Vernon 43.
Mt. Vernon looked to get the ball to the low block as they looked for layups and jump shots in the fourth quarter.
Canistota’s Scott Jolley came up with mid-range jump shots in the fourth quarter.
Canistota did a good job of swinging the ball around the 3-point line and was able to get the ball inside.
Both teams played tough. The score was close throughout the game.
Canistota came away with the 58-54 victory over Mount Vernon.
The leading scorers for Mount Vernon were Renken with 16 points and Schmidt with 15 points.
The leading scorer for Canistota was Shay Jolley 22 points.
