MINNEAPOLIS HENRY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 9, Henry went up against North in an inter-city boys’ basketball matchup. The crowd showed up for the game as the North high school gym was filled with fans.

North looked to set the tempo early. North looked push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

It took both teams awhile to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.

Henry called a timeout with 16:25 left in the first half. The score was tied at 0.

North wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point baskets. North was able to get steals and score baskets off steals.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with rebounds. He was able to get the ball to his guards who were able to get to the basket.

North’s Tyler Johnson was all over the floor. On the offensive end Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and 3-point shots. The defense had a tough time slowing Johnson down.

North called a timeout with 10:45 left in the first half. The score was North 25, Henry 10.

North continued to score layups in transition. Henry had a difficult time hitting shots they put up throughout the first half.

Henry did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. After a slow start by both teams the offense picked up by both teams.

North’s ODell Wilson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups on offense. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North’s Edo Walker came off the bench and provided defensive pressure.

North called a timeout with 2:08 left in the first half. The score was North 44, Henry 32.

North looked to take a lot of time off the clock as Henry went to a zone defense after the timeout.

Henry was able to get their offense going late in the first half.

Henry’s Jacarius Ford and Ramma Hundnell both were able to come up with huge shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was North 44, Henry 37.

As the second half got underway North’s Randy Mathews came off the bench in the second half and was able to provide and offense as he came up with layups.

North called a timeout with 15:27 left in regulation. The score was North 56, Henry 45.

Ford came up with deep 3-point baskets. He was able to get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots.

North’s Ahzerik Rodgers came up with layups in the second half. He was able to get past the Henry defense.

Henry had trouble scoring baskets in the second half. However Ford and Hudnell both were able to keep knocking down shots.

Tyler Johnson scored his 1,000 point on a 2 handed slam dunk with 2:17 left in regulation. That made the score North 86, Henry 67.

North was quicker than Henry. They were able to beat them down the floor and get to the glass.

North came away with the 92-67 victory over Henry.

The leading scorers for Henry were Ford with 25 points,

The leading scorers for North were Tyler Johnson with 22 points, Rodgers with 20 points and Johnson with 19 points.
