WEST LYON TOOK ON VIBORG-HURLEY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

West Lyon (Ia.) went up against Viborg-Hurley (S.D.) in a boys’ basketball game at the Sanford Pentagon holiday classic on Jan. 2. The game was played in four 8-minute quarters.

Both teams started in zone defense.

West Lyon passed the ball around the 3-point line as they worked the ball in their offense.  

It took a while for each team to figure out what the other team was doing on offense.

Viborg-Hurley did a good job of taking their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and if they thought they could penetrate the lane they were able to do that.

West Lyon did a good job of getting everyone involved in their offense. They were patient and didn’t rush their shots.

Viborg-Hurley struggled to shoot the ball in the first quarter.

The score after one quarter was West Lyon 13, Viborg-Hurley 7.

West Lyon looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Viborg-Hurley called a timeout with 6:56 left in the second quarter. The score was West Lyon 15, Viborg-Hurley 7.

West Lyon looked to score layups in transition.

Both teams struggled to hit shots in the second quarter. They took shots but they were not able to fall.

West Lyon continued to get everyone involved in the offense. They communicated well on both ends of the floor. West Lyon turned Viborg-Hurley over and was able to score layups off of the turnovers.

West Lyon was quicker than Viborg-Hurley. West Lyon used their quickness to their advantage as they were able to get to loose balls and take Viborg-Hurley off the dribble.

At halftime the score was West Lyon 28, Viborg-Hurley 13.

West Lyon looked to get the ball into the hands of Beau Kellenberger. Kellenberger came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Viborg-Hurley looked to trap the ball on defense as they looked to come up with steals.

West Lyon called timeout with 5:45 left in the third quarter. The score was West Lyon 32, Viborg-Hurley 16.

West Lyon Isaac Heyer and Chase Grotewold came up with mid-range jump shots. They each were able to get to the basket. The defense had a tough time slowing them down.

Viborg-Hurley struggled to shoot the ball throughout the third quarter.

After three quarters of play the score was West Lyon 50, Viborg-Hurley 26.

Viborg-Hurley trapped West Lyon as they looked for steals out of the trap.

Grotewold continued to come up with mid-range jump shots late in the fourth quarter.  

West Lyon was in control offensively throughout the whole game. They were able to take Viborg-Hurley out of their game from the start of the contest.

Viborg-Hurley came up with some huge shots late in the fourth quarter.

West Lyon called a timeout with 3:19 left in the fourth quarter. The score was West Lyon 54, Viborg-Hurley 42.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Viborg-Hurley made a comeback late in the fourth quarter but that wasn’t enough. West Lyon came away with the 60-46 victory over Viborg-Hurley.  

The leading scorers for Viborg-Hurley were Rusten Anderson with 11 points and Kolton Lee with 10 points.
