ST. AGNES WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On January 9, 2017 St. Agnes and Holy Angels squared off in a boys’ basketball game. It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

St. Agnes looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. They could get everyone involved in the offense. 

It took Holy Angels awhile to get their offense going. They were not able to make shots that they put up early.

Holy Angels looked to pass the ball around the 3-point line as they ran a motion offense. There did a good job of passing and cutting and getting everyone involved in the offense. 

St. Agnes called a timeout with 11:07 left in the first half. The score was St. Agnes 9, Holy Angels 6.

After a slow start, offensively for Holy Angels they could get their offense to click midway through the first half. 

St. Agnes could make layups in transition. They moved the ball quickly down the floor as they looked for layups. 

St. Agnes called a timeout with 6:56 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 16, St. Agnes 15. 

Holy Angels looked to get the ball into the hands of Sam Boehne. Boehne could get to the basket and come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Holy Angels could step up and knock down 3-point baskets. The defensive pressure that Holy Angels applied made it difficult for St. Agnes to make open shots. 

St. Agnes came up with quick baskets late in the first half. They were also able to come up with steals on the defensive end and turn them into layups on the offensive end.

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 28, St. Agnes 25.

As the second half got underway Holy Angels continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

With 17:25 left in regulation Boehne scored his 1,000-high school career point on a layup. 

St. Agnes continued to get the ball into the hands of Gary Smith. Smith took the ball hard to the basket and could make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Both teams looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 8:40 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 44, St. Agnes 39.

St. Agnes kept battling as they attacked the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Smith kept on attacking the basket and looking to make jump shots in the paint. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 4:23 left in regulation, the score was Holy Angels 52, St. Agnes 43.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up. Holy Angels came away with the 58-47 victory over St. Agnes. 

The leading scorer for St. Agnes was Smith with 24 points. 

The leading scorer for Holy Angels was Boehne with 23 points.

I talked to Boehne about the game and scoring his 1,000 point.
