IN THE 2010 BEST BUY SUMMER CLASSIC MEMPHIS SELECT TOOK ON DC ASSAULT

In the first game I covered of the 2010 Best Buy Summer Classic, Memphis Select 17u team took on DC Assault. It took a while for each of these teams to feel each other out.

DC Assault wanted to establish the motion early on. They were not able to do that. Both teams battled each other from the start of the game.

DC Assault applied full court pressure in the early goings of the game. Both teams were evenly matched on the offensive end in the early goings. Neither team was able to go on a run.

The pace of the game was slow throughout the first half. Each team wanted to get their teams into the flow of the game. Neither team wanted to know if they wanted to push the ball up the court or walk it up.

Jordan Goodman for DC Assault did a good job of getting his teammates into the game. He was able to run the offense for the Assault. He knew where his teammates were on the court and he was directing traffic on the court. He was not afraid to pass the ball to other teammates if he didn’t think that he could take a good shot himself.

Memphis Select did a good job of defending in the first half. They didn’t give up easy shots and they were able to close out on the DC Assault shooters. They looked to trap the ball on the defensive end. Darious Page ran the Memphis Select offense.

Both teams really hustled in the first half. At the halftime break the score was DC Assault 27 and Memphis Select 25.

As the second half got underway it seemed that each of the teams had a renewed sense of energy.

Marcus Thornton for DC Assault came in off the bench in the second half to run the offense. He played with a lot of emotion and energy.

Both teams continued to fight in the second half. Both teams dove on the floor for loose balls and both crashed the boards well.

John Hudson was a force on the wing. He knew what to do with the ball when he got it for the Memphis Select team. He had a nice little midrange jump shot that he took from either side of the block.

DC Assault went on a run midway through the second half. They were unstoppable. With 7:01 left in regulation the second half the score was DC Assault 49 Memphis Select 39.

Bodies were flying around on the court. Each team was diving on the floor to go after loose balls. Both teams didn’t give up. They continued to battle each other.

DC Assault went to a full court press with 5:00 left in regulation. They wanted to put as much pressure on Memphis Select as they could.

The game was close. Both teams did a good job of battling each other but in the end DC Assault was able to come away with the 62-55 victory over Memphis Select. Memphis Select didn’t back down. They gave DC Assault all they could handle.

The leading scorer for Memphis Select was Darious Page with 21 pts, and the leading scorer for DC Assault was Jerome Seagers with 11 points.
