Eden Prairie took on Rosemount at the Metrodome in the Class 6A State football championship. Rosemount kicked off to start the game.
Eden Prairie got off to a quick start as Ryan Connelly completed a 54-yard pass to Charlie Venable for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was no good as it bounced off the goal post.
With 10:40 left in the first quarter the score was Eden Prairie 6, Rosemount 0.
Rosemount got the ball after the touchdown. They punted the ball on fourth-and-14.
Eden Prairie got the ball on their own 46 yard line. Eden Prairie looked to get the ball into the hands of Anthony Anderson. Anderson came up with some big plays in the first quarter. On fourth-and-12,
Eden Prairie went for it and turned it over on downs to Rosemount.
Rosemount couldn’t move the football. They had to punt on fourth-and-seven.
Eden Prairie’s Ryan Connelly found Anderson for a 51-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion pass from Connelly to Josh Lanasa was good. With 1:14 left in the first quarter the score was Eden Prairie 14, Rosemount 0. That was the score after one quarter of play.
Rosemont looked to get into the endzone midway through the second quarter. Tyrek Cross got the ball and ran for four yards for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good.
With 5:41 left in the second quarter the score was Eden Prairie 14, Rosemount 7.
Eden Prairie once again looked to get into the endzone late in the second quarter. Anderson came up with a 10-yard touchdown run. Cody Goetz’ extra-point attempt was good.
With 3:13 left in the second quarter the score was Eden Prairie 21, Rosemount 7.
Rosemount called a timeout with 2:39 left in the second quarter.
Rosemount had to punt the ball on fourth down.
At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 21, Rosemount 7.
Rosemount got the ball to start the third quarter. They kept the ball on the ground for a good portion of the third quarter. Rosemount turned it over on downs.
The Eden Prairie defense stepped up big as they were able to slow down the Rosemount offense.
Rosemount got the ball on first-and-10 on their own 33 yard line. Rosemount turned the ball over on downs.
After three quarters of play the score was Eden Prairie 21, Rosemount 7.
Eden Prairie kept on giving Anderson the ball as he continued get yards. Eden Prairie kept the ball on the ground in the fourth quarter as they looked to take as much time off the clock as they could.
Rosemount was picked off by Eden Prairie and Eden Prairie scored a touchdown.
With 4:35 left in the fourth quarter the score was Eden Prairie 28, Rosemount 7.
Rosemount was not able to get into the endzone. Eden Prairie came away with the 28-7 victory over Rosemount to win the Class 6A State title.
After the game I was able to talk to Eden Prairie’s Andre Wallace, Anderson, Connelly, Johnny Heller and head coach Mike Grant about the game about winning the title again.
