St. Francis and Shakopee went up against each other in a boys basketball game in the Minnesota Breakdown Tip Off Classic.
Shakopee started the game in a zone defense. That made St. Francis swing the ball around the three-point line.
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.
St. Francis did a good job of pushing the ball down the floor. They were able to make layups in transition.
Shakopee’s Steffon Mitchell took the ball hard to the basket. He was not afraid of contact on the offensive end. Mitchell did a good job of getting the ball to his teammates where they were able to get good shots.
The defensive pressure that each team played with made it tough for the other team to make open shots.
The score at halftime was Shakopee 24, St. Francis 18.
Shakopee came out in a zone defense to start the second half. They switched up between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the game.
St. Francis was able to sink open shots to start the second half. The score was tied at 26 with 14:00 left in regulation.
It was a defensive battle in the second half. Shakopee was able to trap St. Francis as they looked to turn them over.
Jake Johnson for St. Francis came up with some nice plays for his team. He was able to hit mid-range jump shots consistently.
There were many ties and lead changes late in regulation.
Shakopee called a timeout with 3:52 left in regulation. The score was tied at 39.
Defense played a big role for both teams. The defensive pressure made it hard for each team to get open looks at the basket throughout.
The game came down to the wire. In the end however Shakopee came away with the 42-39 victory over St. Francis.
