It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. The score went back and forth early in the contest.
Sartell-St.Stephen did a good job of moving the ball around the three-point line. They were hit shots from behind the three-point line as well in front of the three-point stripe.
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Brian Goodwin was all over the floor. He was not afraid to shoot the ball.
Goodwin took the ball hard to the basket for layups and if he thought that he could nail a 15-foot jump shot he was not afraid to shoot that either. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Sartell-St.Stephen had a tough time hitting shots midway through the first half. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was not able to score fast break baskets off of the missed baskets.
The score went back and forth late in the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run as the defensive pressure made it difficult for teams to get open looks at the basket.
In a first half that featured a lot of defense the score at halftime was Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 28, Sartell St. Stephen 28.
As the second half got underway both teams came out firing on all cylinders. Neither team gave up easy shots.
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Billy Borgerding came up with some big shots for his team in the second half. He was able to knock down shots from both inside the three-point line and from behind the three-point line. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could hit his shots.
Goodwin stepped up and was able to keep knocking down big shots for his team. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was able to hit shots down the stretch. Sartell St. Stephen was in the game throughout as they didn’t give up easy baskets.
In a hard-fought game Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa came away with the 60-48 victory over Sartell-St. Stephen. Goodwin stepped up big in the second half.
The leading scorers for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa were Goodwin with 23 points and Borgerding with 17 points,
The leading scorers for Sartell St. Stephen were Kevin Wolfe with 14 points and Brandon Snoberger with 11 points.
