HARVARD’S SIYANI TAHIR CHAMBERS HAS BEEN NAMED IVY LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

According to Andrew Chesebro the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Harvard University: “Harvard University Siyani Chambers has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 27 points to lead Harvard past Vermont on Saturday.

Chambers showed tremendous efficiency against the Catamounts, connecting on 9-of-10 attempts from the field and going a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond-the-arc. The Golden Valley, Minn., native scored 15 points after the intermission, including eight points during a 13-0 run which gave the Crimson the lead for good. Chambers added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to his stat line.

The unanimous choice as the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year and a first team all-conference pick last season, Chambers leads the Ancient Eight in assists (4.7) and also ranks third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), fifth in steals (1.4) and is 14th in scoring (11.6). His 27 points against Vermont were the most by a member of the Crimson since current assistant coach  Christian Webster '13 scored 29 at Mercer on Nov. 20, 2010, while his 6-of-6 shooting from three also matched Webster's mark for most makes from beyond-the-arc without a miss.

This marks the first player of the week award of Chambers' career after having been named rookie of the week six times a year ago. Harvard has now picked up three of the last four player of the week honors from the conference with Wesley Saunders earning the accolade Dec. 2 and Dec. 9.”

Chambers played his prep basketball at Hopkins high school in Minnesota. Through 11 games, Chambers is averaging 11.6 ppg.
