WACONIA TOOK ON ELK RIVER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 14, Waconia and Elk River went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game as part of the Minnesota Breakdown Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka high school.
 
Elk River pushed the ball down the floor as they were able to get baskets in transition. Elk River was patient on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the three-point line looking for shots that they thought that they could make.
 
Elk River went to a zone defense in the first half. They wanted to keep the pressure on Waconia and make it hard for them to shoot the ball.
 
The score was close throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.
 
At halftime the score was Elk River 23, Waconia 17.
 
Elk River continued to swing the ball around the three-point line as they looked to take easy shots.
 
Waconia knocked down shots early in the second half. They were able to dribble past the Elk River defenders.
 
The game was close throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.  
 
Both teams fought hard throughout the contest. Elk River held on and came away with the 56-51 victory over Waconia.
