THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MENS BASKETBALL TEAM HOSTED THE DULUTH BULLDOGS IN THE FIRST EXHIBITION GAME OF THE 2009-2010 SEASON

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team hosted the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Gophers looked like they wanted to start off trying to get the ball up the court as quickly as they could.

The Gophers started the game playing in a man-to-man defense. They were really trying to put pressure on the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were trying to trap the Gophers. They wanted to try to get the Gophers out of their rhythm. That approach by the Bulldogs didn’t work. The Gophers continued to look well and they didn’t bend to the pressure.
With 15:25 remaining in the first half freshman Rodney Williams entered the game. Williams is considered one of the top incoming freshmen this season.

With 11:53 left in the first half the score was Minnesota 12 and the University of Minnesota Duluth 6.

The Gophers had a 24-11 lead with 7:57 left in the first half. The Gophers continued to keep the pace in their favor as they were able to control the tempo.

The Gophers had a 50-13 lead at half time. UMD was in a shooting slump. Tubby Smith used a lot of different rotations in the game. He wants to make sure that he has the right rotations in the game.

Redshirt Freshman Dominique Dawson entered the game with 5:34 remaining in regulation. Dawson is from Minneapolis Southwest.

The Gophers were able to come away with the 114-47 victory. The leading scorers for the Gophers were Lawrence Westbrook with 19 points, Devoe Joseph with 18 points and Damian Johnson with 16 points.

After the game Gopher head coach Tubby Smith and players Damian Johnson and Lawrence Westbrook talked about the game.

University of Minnesota basketball players Royce Alexander White, Devron Bostick and Trevor Mbakwe who are all suspended from playing were in shirts and ties sitting at the end of the bench.
