EDINA AND EDEN PRAIRIE MEET IN REGION 6AAAAA SEMI FINAL GAME

The Edina Hornets and the Eden Prairie Eagles squared off in a Region 6AAAAA semi final game at Eden Prairie. Edina was the number 4 seed and Eden Prairie was the number 1 seed in the region.

Edina kicked off to Eden Prairie to begin the game. Eden Prairie started off with a running attack. Eden Prairie got a touchdown early as Brian Athey hooked up with 8:15 left in the first quarter. The score was Eden Prairie 7 and Edina 0.

Edina got the ball back and on the first play. Eden Prairie’s Mitch Hallstrom intercepted the ball to give Eden Prairie the ball back. David Planter scored a field goal with 2:19 remaining in the first quarter.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Eden Prairie 10 and Edina 0.

Eden Prairie’s Jordan Price caught a kick by Edina. Eden Prairie got the ball to begin the second quarter. Gage Shaeffer one of the running backs for Eden Prairie came up and made some nice plays throughout the first half.

Rumeal Harris caught a touchdown for Eden Prairie. The extra point was good. With that touchdown and extra point the score was Eden Prairie 17 and Edina 0.

Rumeal Harris intercepted a pass on Edina’s next offensive play. Taylor Grant of Eden Prairie followed that pick with a touchdown at 8:34 in the second quarter. With that touchdown and extra point the score was Eden Prairie 24 and Edina 0.

Edina fumbled the ball to give the ball back to Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie looked to score again as they got the ball in the red zone again. Mitch Wheeler scored a touchdown with 6:03 remaining in the second quarter. The extra point was good.

With 6:03 left in the second quarter the score was Eden Prairie 31 and Edina 0.

Edina got a touchdown by Devin Crawford-Tuffs on a nice catch and scamper to the end zone. The extra point was good with 4:37 left in the second quarter the score was Eden Prairie 31 and Edina 7.

Eden Prairie’s Andrew Larson ran back the kick off to the five yard line. Robbie Nordstrom scored a touchdown with 4:18 left in the second quarter. The extra point was good. With that the score, it was Eden Prairie 38 and Edina 7.

Austin McGurie scored a touchdown with 1:44 left in regulation. That made it Eden Prairie 45 and Edina 7.
At half time the score was Eden Prairie 45 and Edina 7.

Edina looked to get the ball up the field. They wanted to take their time getting the ball up the field. They were focused on using a sustained drive to score.

They did that as John Cote made a diving catch for Edina. Colin Moynihan scored a touchdown with 6:20 left in the third quarter. The extra point was good. The score after the score was Eden Prairie 45 Edina 14.

Stephen Asp, Edina’s wide receiver, caught a pass for a touchdown with 4:28 to go in the third quarter. The extra point was good. With that touchdown and extra point the score was Eden Prairie 45 and Edina 21.

Eden Prairie’s TJ Fisher scored a touchdown with 11:53 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point was no good. The score was Eden Prairie 51 and then Edina 21.

Luke Powers of Eden Prairie intercepted the ball. That gave Eden Prairie the ball back near the end of the game.

Eden Prairie came away with the 51-21 victory in a hard fought victory over Edina. I was able to talk to Eden Prairie’s Brett Ervin, Brian Athey and head coach Mike Grant.

The Eden Prairie Eagles will play Minnetonka Skippers in the championship game.
