BARNUM TOOK ON GOODHUE IN THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Barnum took Goodhue to the hardwood in the Minnesota State High School League girls’ basketball championship game in class A.

As the game got underway both teams played really hard defense. Barnum started out playing aggressive man-to-man defense.

Both teams were looking to push the ball up the court from the beginning of the game. Goodhue started the game in a 2-3 zone defense. They really tried to spread the floor and get their hands in the open passing lanes.

The score went back and forth throughout the half. Neither team was able to go on a run through the midway the first half.

Barnum went ice cold in shooting. They kept on trying. They kept their heads even though they were not making shots.

Goodhue played zone defense for a bit in the first half. They wanted to slow down the tempo. They wanted to get the ball on their end and work it around the three-point arch.

Barnum went on a little run to end the first half. Goodhue was not able to slow Barnum down late in the first half.
At half time the score was Barnum 20 and Goodhue 16.

Jessica Newman played very well. She found her shot, her teammates were able to give her the ball and she was able to shoot the ball wherever she was on the court.

With 12:06 left in regulation the score was Barnum 30 and Goodhue 19.

Goodhue stayed in a zone defense throughout the second half. Barnum kept looking to get the ball into Jessica Newman’s hands. She was able to drive to the basket and score on open layups.

Barnum was able to put the game away going down the stretch. They were able to weather Goodhue’s run late in the second half.

Barnum was able to wear down a good Goodhue team. They were able to come away with the 43-31 victory, and are 2010 Girls state high school league state champions.

The leading scorers for Goodhue were Erica Tipcke with 10 points and Anne Lodermier with 9 points. Barnum was lead in scoring by Jessica Newman with 19 points and Katrina Newman with 16 points.
